Mr. Zhang Chuanfu Brutally Tortured for Refusing to Sing Communist Party Songs

Mr. Zhang Chuanfu was arrested on July 28th, 2007, and taken to a forced labour camp on October 16th.

Mr. Zhang and Mr. Xue Yanrong, both Falun Gong practitioners, were detained in the second team, First Brigade in the Suihua Forced Labour Camp. Diao Xuesong, leader of the second team, threatened, "You must do exactly as told and you are forbidden to talk to other practitioners."

On January 2008, Mr. Zhang and Mr. Xue were transferred to the first team. In March, guards from the first team beat Mr. Zhang with batons and kicked him because he refused to sing the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) songs. The guards then tied his hands behind his back and hung him up on a bed frame, with feet off the ground. They shocked him with electric batons for four hours before taking him down. Mr. Zhang's hands were numb. Lian Xing and guard Li Xichun, leaders of the first team, tortured him.

In March 2008, Mr. Zhang's parents came to the camp to see him. Deputy leader Li Chengchun of the first team did not allow family visits because Mr. Zhang had not complied with camp rules. Mr. Zhang's father grabbed Li by his clothes and said "What do you mean by him not behaving well?" Li punched Mr. Zhang's father, "How dare you touch a guard? I will call the police and put you in the camp. You want to see your son? I will let you see your son every day!" Li called many officers and staff from the 610 Office¹. Later, someone came and defused the situation. Therefore, they let Mr. Zhang's parents go.

In June 2008, Mr. Zhang still refused to sing CCP songs, so the guards forbid him from using the toilet in the morning and would not let him sleep until 1:00 a.m. Mr. Zhang was handcuffed and exposed to the scorching sun for hours. Guard Yu Kaiyou forced Mr. Zhang to bend down 90 degrees with his arms held upward. Guard Lian Xing ordered guard Tian Zhizheng and Li Xichun to tie Mr. Zhang's hands behind his back and hang him up. They then hung a bucket of water around Mr. Zhang's neck, force-fed him with mustard oil, put his head in a plastic bag and blew smoke into the bag. They pulled down his trousers and shocked his crotch area with electric batons. Afterwards, they covered Mr. Zhang's mouth and shone bright light into his eyes. Guard Li Chengchun kicked Mr. Zhang, so he would swing back and forth, putting extreme stress on his shoulders. Mr. Zhang was in excruciating pain.
