On September 12th, 2009, Ms. Zhao Juanjuan was arrested by 610 Office1 police in Doumen County as she was handing out materials that explained the facts about Falun Gong at Niwan Market in Jingan Town, Doumen County, Juhai City. She was detained in the Second Hotel in Jingan Town. This is her tenth arrest.
Ms. Zhao, 70, is a retired cadre from the Department of Agriculture from Doumen County. She lived at 8 Chaoyang District, Jingan Town, Room 402. She has been monitored, arrested, detained, and sentenced to a labour camp over ten times.
Ms. Zhao used to have poor health before she practised Falun Gong. She suffered from lung disease, kidney disease, gynaecological problems, diabetes, a spinal nerve tumour, rheumatoid arthritis, cataracts, and a foot-bleeding syndrome. She also experienced paralysis twice. In August 1996, she started practising Falun Gong. Two months later, all her diseases disappeared.
On July 20th, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party started persecuting Falun Gong. At the beginning of the persecution, Ms. Zhao's company tried to force her to denounce the practice. Her home phone was tapped and she was followed wherever she went. She was not allowed to go to her home town in Guangzhou City to celebrate a birthday party with her loved ones. She was even initially banned from attending her Alma Mater's 90th anniversary. Eventually, with much help and effort from her fellow alumni, she was spared. However, her company sent someone to follow her 24 hours a day. Because of that, she completely lost her freedom.
Since July 1999, Ms. Zhao has been arrested ten times. Her house was ransacked six times.
