On the morning of August 30th, 2009, the chief of the Zhanqian Police Station in Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, and several policemen ransacked my home when my son was home alone. They took him to the police station, forced him to sit on a a Tiger Bench1 and did not release him until late.
It all began at around 9 a.m. on August 30th. Zhanqian Police Station officers went to my home when my son was there alone. The door was open and they went in without knocking. They also inquired about my neighbours. When officer Liu Ran saw Teacher Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Gong's photo, he stopped in front of it and then called the police station. He said, "There is a Falun Gong practitioner here." My son said to him, "Don't be bothered about this. Just act like you have not seen anything." The police would not listen.
Wang Bing, the chief of the police station, and several policemen went to my home. They asked my son, "Your mother practises Falun Gong?" My son replied, "I don't know about it." They searched our home and found some informational materials and several Falun Gong books. They tried to make my son call me, but he refused to co-operate, so they really berated him.
They saw a computer and got two professionals to log into it. When they were told that it was "full of information regarding Falun Gong," they said they needed to continue investigating it, but the power suddenly went out, so they just took the Falun Gong books and materials with them and left.
After a while they returned to take the computer for further investigation. My son tried to stop them. They held him against a desk to keep him from interfering. They scolded him for informing me. In the end they took him and the computer to the police station.
In the police station, they put my 18-year-old son on a Tiger Bench. He did not co-operate, but they forced him to sit on it for over an hour. They also kept threatening him. One policeman asked him, "Will your mother come?" My son asked him in return, "If it was your mother, would you ask her to come?" The police left without getting anything from him. My child was detained and released after 9 p.m.
Note
1. "Tiger Bench": Prisoners are forced to sit on a small iron bench that is approximately 20 cm (6 inches) tall with their knees tied together. With their hands tied behind their backs or sometimes placed on their knees, they are forced to sit straight up and look straight ahead without movement for long periods of time.
