Ms. Wang Li Dies Eight Days after Being Arrested in Shandong Province

Ms. Wang Li began practising Falun Gong in 2000. In order to avoid being arrested, she had lived away from home since 2001.

On the afternoon of October 20th, 2009, Ms. Wang Li tried to use her unemployment compensation card at the Gaomi City Human Resources Market. The employee that took her card told her that the computer showed the wrong information and that she needed to have it checked in the archive area upstairs. What the employee did was to notify the police and the card tracked her whereabouts.

A police vehicle soon arrived, and two plainclothes officers from the Gaomi City Economic Developing Zone Police Station arrested Ms. Wang and took her to the Gaomi City Domestic Security Division and 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong). They detained her in the Gaomi City Detention Centre.

On October 28th, when Ms. Wang's family brought some clothes for her, they were suddenly told that she had already died of a stroke. Her family saw that her body was covered with wounds. The source of information reported that Ms. Wang refused to answer any questions during interrogations, and the police beat her to death.

Ms. Wang's body is currently stored in the crematory freezer, with four armed police officers assigned to guard it. Her family is very angry about her wrongful death, and they are trying very hard to hire a lawyer to seek justice. They are being closely monitored with many officers hiding around their home. Officials with the Gaomi City Police Department have all decided to say Ms. Wang died of a stroke and have prevented any information from leaking out. We do not know which officer beat her to death, but most likely the person was with the Gaomi City Domestic Security Division or the 610 Office.
