Ms. Liu Fengzhi, a Falun Gong practitioner, was humiliated in 2001 by Chinese Communist Party (CCP)) officials, who paraded her in front of her own residence. In 2003, Ms. Liu was taken to a forced labour camp and served an 18-month sentence; she was arrested again in 2008. At the forced labour camp, she was beaten with an electric baton by prison guard Pu Yonglai, rendering her unconscious for several hours. Her blood pressure was dangerously elevated.
On a spring morning in 2001, representatives from the Qianan City Tobacco Company came to Ms. Liu's residence, where she was setting up a small retail store. The representatives claimed that they were investigating to see if she was selling tobacco without permission. They walked through her house, throwing items around. When they found a copy of the Falun Gong book, Zhuan Falun, they asked her who practised Falun Gong. That afternoon, officers from Kouzhuangxiang Police Station forcibly entered her home and demanded that she criticise Falun Gong. She refused, was arrested, then taken to the Kouzhuangxiang police station, where she was held overnight. The following day she was taken to Quianan City Detention Centre, where she was held for 12 days. Ms. Liu was then transferred to the brainwashing centre in Liujizhuang East Village (formerly known as Quianan Town) for two days.
During her detention, she was handcuffed and pushed onto a large, open truck used for parading criminals awaiting trial, CCP-style, followed by a caravan of approximately 30 vehicles. The parade began at the detention centre, continued through Kouzhuangxiang (Ms. Liu's residence), then proceeded through other villages, finally returning to the scene of the public trial in Kouzhuangxiang. She was forced to stand on the stage and was charged with a non-existent crime.
During this time, practitioners Li Yulian and Liu Xiuying were also detained and beaten by prison guard Yang.
On January 19th, 2004, Ms. Liu was arrested again and detained at the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp, where she performed forced labour, such as wrapping cotton swabs. She was also required to track the allotted material quantities for all workers. Practitioners in the camp were forced to say and do things against their will. Ms. Liu was released after an eight-month imprisonment.
On November 26th, 2008, Pu Yonglai, Ha Fulong, and other State Security Brigade members arrived at Ms. Liu's home in an unmarked vehicle and arrested her. She was taken to Qianan City Detention Centre, where she was so brutally tortured by guards Pu Yonglai and others with electric batons that she lost consciousness, and her blood pressure was elevated for several hours. Even though she was injured and in poor condition, officials kept her in the detention centre for 14 days. On the 14th day she vomited violently for about half a day, and her blood pressure rose to very high levels. At this point, the detention centre officials decided not to keep her any longer. She was finally released, but only after police officials extorted 5,000 yuan1 from her family.
