My four-year-old grandson attended kindergarten earlier this year. He was frequently ill, suffering from high fever and a cough. Every time he became ill, I had to take him to the hospital, so I was concerned that my time for Falun Gong exercises and Fa study would be cut short. I told him to recite, "Falun Dafa is good. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good." He did it very carefully and added, "Master Li is good."
Often, when I was sending forth righteous thoughts, he would recite beside me. I was very pleased with him. However, his illness persisted and I felt very concerned about it. I kept on asking myself, "What is the cause of this problem ? Why does he get sick so regularly?"
One day in September while sending righteous thoughts, this worrisome thought showed up again. I asked myself, "Why can't I let go of this thought? When my sister's grandson was ill, I didn't worry about it. Is this human sentimentality? Does it originate from selfishness? Is it selfish when I think that accompanying my grandson to the hospital is a waste of my time in cultivation? Selfishness is an inherent part of the old universe. As a Dafa practitioner, I must not be attached to it." At this point, I realized that the problem was due to my concern about my personal benefits as opposed to another's welfare. It was my lack of compassion created the problem. Once I located my problem, I felt much better and relaxed.
My experience is like what Master said,
"As I've said, everything that happens today in the ordinary society is the result of Dafa disciples' thoughts." ("Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Philadelphia, U.S.A.") (Official translation)
The very next day, my daughter-in-law called and said that my grandson's fever had subsided. This event indicates how important it is to look inward and locate our own problems, which is the real cause of what is happening to us.
I also learned that when we encounter a negative event, we must look unconditionally within ourselves to find the cause. It is necessary to make sure that every thought conforms to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, so that we are qualified Dafa practitioners.
