Ms. Yu Xiaohua was sentenced to two years of forced labour and is currently imprisoned at the Harbin City Drug Rehab Centre. Ms. Yu has been repeatedly harassed for practising Falun Gong since the persecution began in 1999.
In August 1999, officer Zhao Peizhu called Ms. Yu for a meeting at the Xinxing Police Station. When Ms. Yu refused agree to stop practising Falun Gong, Wang Jun, director of the police department, ordered her detained for fifteen days.
In October 1999, Ms. Yu went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practise Falun Gong. She was arrested by officers from the Qianmen Police Department in Beijing and transferred back to the Anda City Detention Centre. Wang Jun signed an order condemning her to two years of forced labour. She was taken to the Shuanghe Forced Labour Camp in Qiqihar City, where she and other practitioners were forced to package the highly toxic agricultural chemical hexachlorocyolohexane without any protective gear, and subjected to brainwashing.
In the morning of June 7th, 2009, Ms. Yu and Ms. Hao Guiyun went to Wanbaoshan Town by bike. They talked to people about Falun Gong. On their way back, they were arrested by officers from the Wanbaoshan Town Police Station and held at the Andahang Detention Centre. They were sentenced to two years of forced labour, and imprisoned in the Harbin City Drug Rehab Centre on June 18th.
Ms. Yu's family learned of her whereabouts two days later. Ms. Yu had been taking care of her parents-in-law since 1998. While she was detained, her mother-in-law passed away without the opportunity to say a final farewell.
