Husband of Shen Yun Performer Arrested at Airport and Taken to Brainwashing Centre

According to a report released by the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG), Mr. Jiang Feng, the husband of Mei Xuan, an erhu player with the Shen Yun Performing Arts Company, (a show depicting traditional Chinese culture through dance, music and song) is detained in a brainwashing centre by the Luyang District Domestic Security Division in Hefei City, Anhui Province. Two officers from Yimin Police Station, where Jiang Feng registered his residency, were assigned to assist the brainwashing.

On February 18th, 2010, Mr. Jiang was scheduled to take US Continental flight number CO86 to reunite with his wife. He had checked in his luggage, obtained a boarding pass, and gone through the security check. He should have arrived in the Newark Airport on the afternoon of February 18th, but his wife found that he had never boarded the plane. He went missing after the security check and before boarding the aircraft in Pudong Airport.

On February 21st, 2010, Ms. Mei Xuan told journalists, "In order to disrupt Shen Yun, the Chinese Communist Party has not only arrested my husband but also arrested my mother a month ago, causing my father to be bedridden with grief ever since." She said her husband must have been arrested by the 610 Office [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong]. Now the WOIPFG has found out that Mr. Jiang is being detained in a brainwashing centre.

Mr. Jiang was arrested for the first time on July 20th, 1999, as soon as he arrived at his job. His wife was arrested from home at 4 p.m. the same day. He was sentenced to three years in prison.
