Changping District police arrested Ms. Chen Shulan, from the Changping District of Beijing, on September 16th, 2002. Ms. Chen was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison, and has been held at the Tiantanghe Women's Prison in Beijing. She is scheduled to be released in a few days, on March 16th, 2010.
In the summer of 2007, when Ms. Chen's father Mr. Chen Yunchuan went to visit his daughter at the prison, the prison officials denied the visitation using the excuse that he didn't present his ID card and proof from his village committee. The prison also didn't allow him to leave some clothing and money he had bought for his daughter. Mr. Chen returned home and died in a car accident in late 2007. Mr. Chen's family of seven is survived by only Ms. Chen and her daughter Li Ying, whose whereabouts are unknown.
On September 17th, 2002, the second day following her mother's arrest, Ms. Chen's then-ten-year-old daughter Li Ying, who was in class at the Chengbei Central No. 6 Street Elementary School, was taken away by Changping District police. They incarcerated her at a brainwashing centre in a resort village, and then transported her to a nursing home in Changping on the morning of January 9th, 2003.
According to Mr. Chen Yunchuan before his death, some practitioners had rescued Li Ying from the nursing home. He had seen his granddaughter Li Ying once, but later lost contact. He also lost contact with practitioners who knew about the situation. Thus Li Ying's whereabouts have remained unknown.
It is believed that Ms. Chen's husband divorced her, so she will have no home in Changping, but she may have relatives in Huailai County. We hope that practitioners can help arrange for her to settle down.
Mr. Chen's family's ordeals and suffering is a result of the persecution inflicted upon them, and it is one of a most horrible and tragic persecution case, and has raised concerns world-wide and from the United Nations.
