At around two o'clock in the afternoon on March 4th, 2010, Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Feng Yuying, Ms. Han Keting, Ms. Sun Enqin, Ms. Zhao Yuping, and Ms. Guiping from Cuihuangkou Township in the Wuqing District in Tianjin and Ms. Quo Huili and Ms. Liu Jinting from the Baodi District were arrested by local police while looking after three children whose parents were not able to care for them. They were then detained at the Wuqing Detention Centre.
Practitioner Ms. Wei Lianhua was arrested in 2008. She was sentenced to four years in prison and is currently being held at Tianjin Women's Prison. After his wife was prosecuted, Ms. Wei's husband went through tremendous hardship. Since he had to provide for their three children and himself, he went to the government officials in his village to collect more than eight thousand yuan1 they owed him. However, the officials claimed that they did not have his money and that it was, in fact, their predecessors who owed the money, so they refused to pay. Ms. Wei's husband was under great strain and unable to contain his anxiety: he lost all hold on reality and was not able to recognise anyone. He would walk around without any clothes on, did not eat or sleep, and was prone to physical violence with anyone he saw. He was sent to a mental hospital.
After Ms. Zhou was arrested and her husband's emotional condition deteriorated, their eldest daughter, Ms. Zhou Hongyan, had to watch after her younger brother and sister. She was not able to shoulder the heavy burden of being responsible for the household and taking care of the hospital fees and started to show signs of mental instability.
Due to the helping hands of Falun Gong practitioners, Ms. Zhou's mental status slowly began to improve. However, around 2 o'clock in the afternoon on March 4th, several practitioners went to visit her and were reported. Officers from Wuqing Police Department and Huangkou Police Station arrested both Ms. Zhou and the visiting practitioners and took them to the police station.
Except for Ms. Zhou, who was taken home by her aunt and an elderly individual, the other seven practitioners are being held in Wuqing Detention Centre.
