Ms. Huang Juan is 21 years old and lives in Shengli Oil Field, Dongying City, Shandong Province. As a result of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) brutal persecution of Falun Gong, she has developed severe mental disorders and has often run away from home.
On the evening of March 1st, 2010, policemen from the Dongying District Sheng Yuan Police Station found Ms. Huang about 3 kilometres away from home. After the officers questioned her, they searched her backpack and found Falun Gong books. Then, they arrested her and took her to the Dongying City's State Security Division. On March 2nd, Dongying City's Municipal Public Security Bureau sent her to the Dongying City's Detention Centre. The officials also ransacked her home. In the detention centre, Ms. Huang refused to sign any arrest document.
Ms. Huang had also been arrested previously. She was sent to the Jinan Detention Centre's Wangcun brainwashing sessions, subjected to persecution and forced to quit school. To support her livelihood, she found several temporary short-term work assignments, but has mainly had to rely on her mother's meagre income.
Ms. Huang's mother, Ms. Wu Suqiong, was also arrested several times by the CCP authorities before the Beijing Olympic Games. She was sent to the Jinan Detention Centre's Wangcun brainwashing sessions, where she was subjected to inhumane torture. However, she still continues to uphold her faith in Falun Gong. In the absence of stable employment, Ms. Wu relies on temporary work to support herself and her daughter.
Ms. Huang's father, Mr. Huang Wen Qiang, is an employee of the Yellow River Drilling Company in Dongying City. When he went to Beijing to petition for the right to practise Falun Gong, he was arrested by the police and tied to a telephone pole. The officers removed his shoes and socks and left him outside of the police station to endure severe cold overnight. Mr. Huang was also subsequently arrested and detained several times. He was forced to attend brainwashing sessions where authorities attempted to transform him, and was later sentenced to three years of forced labour. Under the cruel persecution of the CCP, he renounced his beliefs.
Due to her parents' and her own suffering as a result of the CCP's persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Huang developed severe physical and mental disorders. The severity of her condition fluctuates from time to time, and she often runs away from home. Last month, her father went to court to petition for divorce. With the court trial scheduled for April 1st, her mental condition worsened, and she once again ran away from home.
