Mr. Yang Zhanjiu Arrested and His Wife Beaten to Death in Yushu City, Jilin Province

On March 5th, 2010, Mr. Yang Zhanjiu from Yushu City, Jilin Province, and his father-in-law were arrested and then interrogated by the Yushu City's domestic security division. On the same day, the police, who waited inside Mr. Yang's home, also arrested two other practitioners who went to visit him. Mr. Yang's wife, Ms. Li Shuhua, was brutally tortured to death in a detention centre seven years ago. Those responsible are still at large.

At around noon on March 5th, Fan Hongkai, head of the domestic security division, along with deputy head Li Xiao, instructor Yan Chongjie, and police officers Shi Hailin, Qi Li, Li Chunhe, and Li Zaichen, went to Mr. Yang Zhanjiu's home. When Mr. Yang's father-in-law, Mr. Li Fumin, opened the door, the police forced their way in and handcuffed Mr. Yang. They ransacked his home and confiscated a laptop, three printers, recorders, a laminator, a paper cutter, and other personal belongings.

Mr. Yang and his parents-in-law were taken to the domestic security division and interrogated.

Meanwhile, police officers Qi Li and Li Zaichen stayed at Mr. Yang's home. At about 5:00 p.m., practitioners Mr. Su Yucai and Mr. Li Guofeng arrived at the home. They were arrested and taken to the domestic security division for interrogation. When both practitioners refused to co-operate with the police, Fan Hongkai, Li Xiao, and Yang Shucai hit them on the face and feet. Then Fan Hongkai and Yan Chongjie went to Mr. Su Yucai's home and ransacked it. Both Mr. Su and Mr. Li Guofeng have been transferred to a detention centre.

Seven years ago, on September 24th, 2003, Jiang Wei and other police officers from Yushu City Public Security Bureau broke into Mr. Yang Zhanjiu's home and forcibly took his wife, Ms. Li Shuhua, to a detention centre in Yushu City because she practised Falun Gong. She was tortured daily. The guards tried to suffocate her by covering her head with a plastic bag; stabbed her fingertips, arms, back, and chest area with a large needle; and punched her so hard in the eyes that one of her eyeballs came out of its socket. Ms. Li's agonising screams could be heard throughout the detention centre. She eventually lost consciousness. On October 8th, 2003, Ms. Li was persecuted to death because the perpetrators wanted to hide their crime. Those involved in her death have never been brought to justice. They are: Li Fenglin, director of the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong); Fan Hongguan, head of the public security bureau; Zhang Deqing, captain of the domestic security brigade; Gong Tie, executive director of the detention centre; and guards Wang Jun, Sun, and Li.
