The issue of marriage may be confusing for many younger practitioners. Of course, many young practitioners handle themselves quite well on this matter, and a number of practitioners have already shared their experiences on this topic. In this article, I would like to share a story of a female practitioner in my local area, to remind young practitioners to be careful with the issue of marriage.
This woman is a veteran practitioner who began practicing Falun Dafa before July 20, 1999, when the persecution began. She originally had no interest in marriage, but she worried that her relatives and friends didn't understand her and that her parents opposed her practice because of this. She wanted to marry a practitioner, but things didn't work out that way. Her relatives introduced her to a non-practitioner.
Through her clarifying the truth about Falun Gong to him, the man promised that he wouldn't oppose her cultivation. However, a year after they got married, agents of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) ransacked their home and fined them a large amount of money. In addition, because of the CCP's implication policy, her husband lost his job. Under this pressure, her husband divorced her while she was three months pregnant. Moreover, her parents threatened her, "If you don't give up practicing cultivation, we will personally send you to a forced labour camp!" This caused the practitioner to suffer a lot of interference.
She later calmed down and looked within to find the reason why she was suffering such severe persecution. She admitted, "After I got married, I gradually developed an attachment to comfort and ease, and I sank into my attachments. I even started feeling sleepy when I sat in meditation or studied the Fa. I also developed fear, so I rarely clarified the truth to others. My husband only saw Falun Gong as a practice for healing and fitness, and thought that Falun Gong was getting into politics. I didn't help him see the true nature of the CCP, and I never dared to have him or our relatives read the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party."
This practitioner has a lot of regrets. Many of her relatives hate Dafa due to her being arrested and the divorce. She had a dream once that it was very dark in her parents' home and that no one was there. She hasn't saved the people who have a predestined relationship with her. Instead, they remain in very dangerous positions. In addition, her own cultivation state is unstable.
I believe that if she could have clarified the truth well to her relatives, done well with the three things (study the Fa [the teachings of Falun Dafa], send forth righteous thoughts and clarify the truth about Falun Dafa and about the persecution to the world's people), and maintained strong righteous thoughts at every moment, the result would have been different. This practitioner has gone through some difficult times, but our benevolent Master never gives up on us. We need to walk well on our cultivation paths to recover from our losses and strive forward. This practitioner hopes that her story will remind practitioners in similar situations to clarify the truth well to your relatives, rather than harbour a mindset of seeking permission from your relatives to practice cultivation. Many practitioners' relatives have opposed their practice in the past, but because they clarified the truth very well, their relatives gradually came to support Falun Gong, and some have even helped to distribute truth-clarifying materials.
I hope that everyone walks well and steadily on the path of cultivation, reaches consummation, and returns to the origin with Master. Please kindly point out anything that is improper.
