Mr. Pang You from the Chaoyang District in Beijing was sentenced to four years in prison by the Beijing Chaoyang District Court. This is the second time Mr. Pang has been sentenced. The convicting evidence included 75 Falun Gong DVDs, 70 flyers, and 167 one-yuan bills with positive messages about Falun Gong written on them. Mr. Pang had been recently released from Beijing Qianjin Prison after serving an eight-year term. He was arrested again in August 2009.
During the eight years Mr. Pang was imprisoned the first time, his entire family lived in fear and worry. Mr. Pang's mother, Ms. Zhang Lianying, had a particularly difficult time. Before the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to prosecute Falun Gong in 1999, she had started to practise Falun Gong. Through cultivation she was cured of leukaemia. Ms. Zhang passed away after Mr. Zhang's imprisonment and following the harassment and threats from the Domestic Safety Department and others. Mr. Pang went to his mother's funeral in handcuffs. He was very upset. Those who were at the funeral expressed their anger by stating, "He only wanted to practise Falun Gong, practise his belief. Is the persecution necessary?"
In 2000, Mr. Pang was detained in the 7th branch of Hangu Prison. He was later taken to Qianjin Prison. He was shackled and in handcuffs with a third chain connected them. He walked hunched over and slowly. It was difficult for him to use the toilet. He was deprived of sleep for many nights. If he dozed off, cold water would be poured over him. To protest the persecution, Mr. Pang went on a hunger strike. He was encased in a metal suit, which immobilised him, and force fed. At the the same time, he was shocked on the legs with an electric baton. In District 12 in Qianjin Prison, Mr. Pang stood up for fellow practitioners when they were being tortured. He also refused to write anything against Falun Gong and he did not bribe anyone in an attempt to leave the prison early. He was imprisoned for the entire eight years of his sentence and released on September 27th, 2008.
After ten months at home, Mr. Pang was arrested by officers from the Laiguangying Police Station in Chaoyang District and the Olympic Village Office Police Station on August 3rd, 2009. His home was ransacked at 11:30 p.m. that same night, and Mr. Pang was detained in the Beijing Chaoyang District Detention Centre. At 6 p.m. on August 27th, his wife, Ms. Guo Shujing, was arrested at home. Officers ransacked their home again and confiscated some personal items and a computer. The police went to their neighbour's home and ransacked it as well. Their school age child was left home on his own. He developed physiological problems related to his parents' arrests and was unable to concentrate his on his studies. He was transferred to a school further away.
In the middle of September 2009, Mr. Pang was transferred to the Beijing Detention Centre No.1. His wife, Ms. Guo, was tortured for over a month in the Beijing Chaoyang District Detention Centre and is now being monitored at home.
