Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Kao Fuquan Arrested after Incessant Harassment

On May 8th, 2010, Kao Fuquan was arrested outside his home by agents of the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong). He is currently detained at the Lingnan Gold Mine Brainwashing Centre. Within five days of being arrested, Zhaoyuan City state security police and 610 Office agents interrogated Mr. Kao using torture.

Back on January 16th, 2003, Mr. Kao was arrested by officers from the Mengzhi Police Station, under orders from the 610 Office, and his home was ransacked. He was tortured with electric batons to his head, ears, and other sensitive areas. His arms and hands were burned.

To further torture him, agents used handcuffs to suspend him from a hook on the wall until he passed out from the pain. When Mr. Kao came to, the torture would start all over again. He was tortured for nine days in the Mengzhi Police Station.

One day after being tortured, his fever was so high that he fell unconscious. The guards just left him in the courtyard unattended. While he was lying there out in the open, sick and unconscious, someone from the police station came by and doused him with cold water.

Mr. Kao has been tortured so much that he no longer looks like a normal person. Lin Tao, head of Zhaoyuan City's 610 Office, yelled at Mr. Kao, "I don't know how they beat you, but you haven't changed your thinking. What should I hit you with 40 times, an electric baton or a wooden club?" While saying this, he started hitting Mr. Kao with the club, which caused him to almost pass out. The police officers at the station didn't want to be responsible for Mr. Kao's death, so they took him to the detention centre, where he passed out in the men's toilet, bloodying his face and lodging a tiny piece of concrete in the bridge of his nose when he fell.

After Mr. Kao had been held in the detention centre for over seven weeks, he was taken to Wangcun Forced Labour Camp in Zibo City, Shandong Province, to serve a three-year term. By then he was so weak that he wasn't able to take care of himself--his nervous system had been seriously injured, his muscles were atrophied, he was unable to move half of his body. He needed help just to walk. The labour camp staff was afraid of being held responsible for his death in the camp, so, after extorting 900 yuan¹ from his family, they released him on bail for "medical reasons" in December 2002.

Friends were shocked at the sight of him when they visited him in his home, as he looked like a skeleton. He did recover over time through practising Falun Gong. To support his family, Mr. Kao had to work out of town. However, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) did not stop harassing him and his family. In December 2007, the Zhaoyuan City State Security Division, headed by Li Jianguang, went to his home. As he was out of town, they took his wife to the Lingnan Gold Mine Brainwashing Centre, where she was interrogated through torture by Li Jianguang and his gang. She was held for four and a half months in the brainwashing centre until her family paid 600 yuan for her release.
