Ms. Zhang Weien Dies as a Result of Persecution; Police Stages Suicide Scene

Mr. Zhang Weien, a practitioner in Zibo City, Shandong Province, was arrested by the police on July 6th, 2010. He died three days later. The police officers then staged a suicide at his home and sped away in a car.

Mr. Zhang Weien and his wife live in Xilishan Village, Kunlun Town, Zichuan District, Zibo City. On the evening of July 6th, officers from the Boshan District Crime Response Squad forcibly took the couple into custody. Mr. Zhang's wife returned home the next day. On the third day, officers from the squad took Mr. Zhang back home in a car. However, Mr. Zhang was found dead when his family returned home. The officers were believed to have staged the scene to make it look like Mr. Zhang had committed suicide by drinking pesticide.

Eyewitnesses saw two officers take Mr. Zhang back to his home. It was not clear whether Mr. Zhang was alive or dead at the time.

During the eleven years that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been persecuting Falun Gong, police and prison guards often beat or torture practitioners to death in detention centre, labour camps, prisons or brainwashing centres. They have categorically claimed these practitioners to have either died of sudden illness or committed suicide. However, Falun Gong teachings have made it explicitly clear that the killing of life is strictly prohibited, including killing or injuring oneself.

Since the persecution started on July 20th, 1999, Zichuan District has been among the worst in terms of severity in Zibo City. Mr. Xiao Pifeng, a practitioner from Ezhuang Township in Zichuan District, was beaten to death by domestic security officers in Zichuan District and guards at the Qiugu Forced Labour Camp.
