Seventy-year-old Gu Xingfeng from Huilong Village, Baima Township, Miyi County, Sichuan Province became healthy after practising Falun Gong. However, for the past 11 years she has been persecuted for her belief. The local Communist regime officials continuously harassed her using various means including imprisonment, brainwashing, house raids, etc. At one time, she was even forced to leave home and stay in various places to avoid arrest.
Not long after the persecution began in July 1999, Baima Town Police Station officers arrested a large number of Falun Gong practitioners, including Ms. Gu, and attempted to brainwash them. She was held in the police station for one day by Li Shifen. Later on, while she was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong, Mao Taiming, Li Zhengfu and Wang Yingzhong from the police station seized her and took her to Guabang Town where she was forced to undergo brainwashing for one day and pressured to sign documents renouncing her practice of Falun Gong.
After Ms. Gu went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, the local police forced her into a car and drove her to the station where she was detained for one day. On January 14th, 2001, she was arrested by officers from Miyi County Politics and Security Division including Chai Faxiang, Liao Hongbin, Xiang Jinfa, Yong Gang and others for posting informational materials in public places. These officers handcuffed her to railings. Officer Yong Gang punched and kicked her, leaving her covered with bruises. She was denied food and water and was kept from using the toilet for a week.
Afterwards, Ms. Gu was detained in a detention centre where she was further tortured. Officials interrogated her daily and demanded to know where she got her Falun Gong informational materials, how many copies she had and how many she had posted in public places. When she refused to answer, they beat and tortured her, forced her to stand against the wall and poured cold water on her. She was detained for eight months and had to pay a fine of 200 yuan1 before she was released.
In December 2003, someone reported on Ms. Gu as she was giving out informational materials. As a result, officials ransacked her home and took away two Falun Gong books, exercise tapes and posters with the phrase "Falun Gong is Good." They even forced her eldest daughter to sign papers promising that Ms. Gu would not spread information about Falun Gong. Afterwards Yuan Guofang, head of the village, would come with other people to harass her at home at any time.
One day in August 2004, at around 6 p.m., five policemen from the police station conducted a search again at Ms. Gu's home, taking away two Falun Gong books, lecture tapes, music tapes and exercise tapes. Her third oldest daughter tried to stop the police from taking away the books and was arrested and taken to the police station. She was interrogated about where the materials came from and was released at 9 p.m. that night.
After the arrest of her daughter, regime officials and policemen would often go to Ms. Gu's home to harass her. Finally Ms. Gu was forced to leave home. During this time, she stayed with another practitioner. However a special agent reported on this practitioner and as a result, policemen from Xichang Police Department conducted a house raid, taking away 515 yuan as well as clothing and other items. Once again, Ms. Gu was forced to find a place to hide from the police. She did not return until three months later.
In September 2004, as she was feeding pigs, village head Yuan Guofang brought town officials and policemen to ransack her home again. They took away fliers and banners. Several thugs working for the police forced her into a car and brought her to the police station. They handcuffed her to a tree from afternoon to 12 midnight and let the mosquitoes bite her. She was subsequently taken to a room where she was forced to stand for the whole night. She released after three days of such abuse.
During the period of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) 17th Plenary Session, a dozen policemen from the police station climbed over the wall and forced their way into Ms. Gu's home. They took her to the police station where she was forced to undergo brainwashing for nine days.
Practitioner Ms. Song Xuemei was reported for telling people about the persecution of Falun Gong and subsequently arrested. At the same time, policeman Yang Zihua broke into Ms. Gu's house without a warrant and raided her home, but could not find anything.
During the Beijing Olympics, party officials again raided Ms. Gu's home and took away her Falun Gong materials. Later on, they arrested her on the streets in Guabang Town and locked her up in Miyi Detention Centre for 14 days. She was subsequently transferred to a brainwashing centre in Guabang Town where she was held for three days before they released her.
