Approximately 20 Falun Gong Practitioners Still Imprisoned at the Lannigou Brainwashing Centre in Guizhou Province

Lannigou Brainwashing Centre's formal name is the Guiyang City Legal Studies Centre. Officials from the Guizhou Province Public Security Department and from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) appropriated millions of yuan¹ in 2002 to build this facility in Lannigou, Guiyang City, as a base to persecute Falun Gong practitioners from various parts of the province. Numerous practitioners have been arrested and kept captive there, with approximately 20 still there now. Below are the circumstances of some practitioners.

Song Bangfu

May 8th, 2010 was the end of Mr. Song's two-year forced labour term. Instead of setting him free that day, Guiyang City and Nanming District 610 Office agents transferred him from the Zhongba Labour Camp straight to the Lannigou Brainwashing Centre.

Mr. Song's mother, in her 80s, accompanied by staff from the Huaguoyuan Police Station, arrived at the Zhongba Labour Camp late the morning of May 8th to pick him up. She learned that her son had already left the camp. She pressed the guards on her son's whereabouts. They reluctantly revealed that he had been sent to the Lannigou Brainwashing Centre. She rushed to the brainwashing centre that afternoon, but the people there said they had no idea of where her son was.

Mr. Song's mother went to the brainwashing centre a second time on Monday, May 10th. The guards again duped her, saying that her son was not there. They verbally abused and humiliated her. Unable to see her son after two long years of waiting for his release from the labour camp, she felt extremely frustrated and tired. Desperate, she decided to jump into a river and end her life. Fortunately, her family stopped her just in time and averted a tragedy. Even though the brainwashing centre officials eventually allowed her to see her son, they made it clear that he was going to be kept captive indefinitely. She could no longer endure the pressure and has become bedridden.

Qin Jinlian

After agents from the Hongshan Police Station arrested Ms. Qin from her home on the afternoon of January 6th, 2010, local practitioners quickly spread the news and encouraged everyone to call the perpetrators. The policemen involved in her arrest became very frightened and threatened her family, "Tell them not to call anymore; otherwise, we will extend Qin Jinlian's term." The police recently transferred Ms. Qin, close to 60, from the Baiyun District Drug Rehabilitation Centre to the Lannigou Brainwashing Centre.

Xie Xianfen

Ms. Xie, a Falun Gong practitioner from Anshun City, Guizhou Province, was sentenced to forced labour on three occasions. Her employer, the Yunma Factory, subsequently terminated her without offering any valid reason. She was sent to the Zhongba Forced Labour Camp for the third time in May 2008. When her term expired in May 2010, the guards immediately sent her to the Lannigou Brainwashing Centre.

Mistreatment of Detained Practitioners

The 610 Office at the Lannigou Brainwashing Centre uses three people to monitor each Falun Gong practitioner. The monitors live in the same cell as the practitioner and keep an eye on him or her around the clock. They have the practitioner view or listen to video/audio materials that slander Falun Gong all day long and force the practitioner to write statements to renounce Falun Gong. In some instances, the guards even have male monitors live with young female practitioners for long periods of time.

The monitors also intimidate and harass practitioners and their families. One method they use is to demand families to exert pressure on their loved ones, threatening to send them to labour camps or hold them infinitely if they refuse to give up the practice. The monitors also lace the practitioners' drinking water with drugs that damage the central nervous system. Moreover, they brutally force-feed practitioners who are on hunger strike and often threaten to rape female practitioners.

Lannigou Brainwashing Centre guards intentionally keep the living conditions extremely poor in an attempt to weaken practitioners' willpower. There is no air conditioning in the summer, so the rooms are hot and humid. In addition, practitioners have to suffer from freezing weather in the winter since the guards do not turn the heat on. Moreover, they make practitioners sit on cold benches for long periods.

When the guards' brutal force-feeding endangers a practitioner's life, they take him to the confined treatment section on the fifth floor of the Guiyang Police Hospital. Once the practitioner recovers, they bring him back to the Lannigou Brainwashing Centre for further abuse and mistreatment.

It is confirmed that the following four people died at the Lannigou Brainwashing Centre as a result of torture: Gao Maosen, Liu Yuanzhen, Bao Liqun, and Shi Tongwen.
