Practitioner Ms. Sun Shuhua Recounts Torture at Dagang Women's Forced Labour Camp in Tianjin

Practitioner Ms. Sun Shuhua, from Tianjin, was arrested for discussing the facts about Falun Gong. Later on, she was sent to Dagang Women's Forced Labour Camp and tortured. The following is her account of what she went through.

Sent to a Detention Centre for Distributing Informational Disks

My name is Sun Shuhua and my legs are disabled. I have greatly benefited both physically and mentally by practising and cultivating Falun Gong.

On April 4th, 2009, when I was distributing CDs exposing the persecution of Falun Gong at Sangzi market, another practitioner and I were arrested by policemen Pan Jun from Sangzi Police Station and Jiao Daming from Erlang Village of Shangcang Town. They sent us to Ji County Detention Centre. They told us they were going to release us 15 days later.

When I was in the detention centre, they didn't give me crutches, so I could not walk at all. Because of this, the part of my leg below my left knee was completely numb and I couldn't stand up. A few days later they sent me to Dagang Women's Forced Labour Camp.

Tortured at Dagang Women's Forced Labour Camp

The head of the division agreed to give me crutches, but arranged for some inmates and assistants to brainwash me every day. The officers tried to make use of my relatives to persuade me to renounce Falun Gong. They asked my family to bring my child to the labour camp. They instructed the inmates to force me to stand still or sit on a small stool from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.. Even though they knew I was disabled, they would force me to stand against the wall so closely that my toes, stomach and nose were up against it at the same time.

Inmate Yang Wenhua tried all means to “transform” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] me, but failed. She controlled the time when I could use the toilet for a bowel movement to only once every 4 or 5 days. For several days, she didn't let me drink any water. She knew that my legs were disabled, but intentionally rushed and hurried me while I was washing. During those days, my legs were numb and I couldn't stand very well, so I fell down often.

In order to “transform” me, the head of the division pretended to care for me. She deceived me by allowing me to have a nap at noon, allowing me to rest my legs while working and not caring how much work I did. I was deceived and wrote something that I shouldn't have, but my mind became clear later and I wrote another letter explaining the facts about Falun Gong. I also solemnly declared that all that I said and did that was disrespectful to Falun Gong is null and void. After that, I refused to work, and refused to cooperate with them. After that, whenever they talked to me, I explained the facts about Falun Gong to them face to face, until I walked out of the labour camp.
