Ms. Song Guiyun, in Her Seventies, Subjected to Continuous Persecution and Sentenced to Three Plus Years of Imprisonment

The Fumeng County Court in Fuxin City, Liaoning Province recently sentenced Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Song Guiyun, who is in her 70s, to prison. Ms. Song was scheduled to be sent to prison on March 15th.

Song Guiyun was arrested on the afternoon of December 11th, 2010 as she spoke with people about Falun Gong and exposed the persecution in Fuxingdi Town, Fumeng County, Fuxin City. Officers from the Fuxingdi Police Station took her to the Fumeng County Police Department, then held her in the Xindi Detention Centre in Fuxin City.

Ms. Song has been arrested many times since the Chinese Communist Party started the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999. She was subjected to detention and sentencing many times, and has been held in the Liaoning Province Women's Prison, Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Liaoning Province, and the Fuxin County Detention Centre. She was detained in the Liaoning Province Women's Prison for three years.

When Ms. Song was detained at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, she was forced to squat 24 hours a day for as long as one month. This torture caused her to develop bone spurs. She was in severe pain, yet the guards still forced her to do military-style drills and calisthenics every day.

Ms. Song was detained for three years in Dabei Prison. The years in detention and the persecution in general deeply affected Ms. Song. Her lower back was severely injured, and she often suddenly lost control of her legs and fell. In addition, she frequently felt pain or numbness from her thighs all the way down to her feet, and often woke up at night from the pain. Despite her fragile physical condition, the guards forced Ms. Song to do hard labour.
