By the end of January 2011, 138 Falun Gong practitioners were jailed at the 3rd Division of the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. During the first twenty days that the practitioners were imprisoned, the guards directed collaborators (former practitioners, brainwashed against Falun Gong, made to assist in brainwashing and torturing practitioners) to manipulate practitioners into giving up their belief in Falun Gong. Any practitioner who refused to be “transformed” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] by the end of the twenty days was tortured with a method called “stretching.”
Some practitioners were forced to give up Falun Gong because of the severity of the torture. To solidify the coerced “transformations,” the guards used brainwashing techniques. They ordered these practitioners to take written exams, sing songs of praise to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and recite the “30 Regulations of Education through Forced Labour.” Practitioners who did not meet the guards' requirements were again severely tortured.
On October 11th, 2010, guard Huang Haiyan took practitioner Ms. Liang Yu from Dalian to the “luggage storage room” at Donggang (a place of torture inside the labour camp). Ms. Liang was handcuffed to an iron bed and was kicked and shocked with electric batons on her face. During the following four days, Ms. Liang was either forced to stand straight for long periods or tied to the bed with her limbs stretched widely.
On the first day of the torture, Ms. Liang was not allowed to use the toilet for twelve hours. She then went on a hunger strike for five days. On the fourth day, the persecutors tied her to the iron bed to force-feed her. They pried her mouth wide open with a metal instrument, held her nose and then force fed her. On October 18, Ms. Liang was transferred to the 2nd Division and forced to do hard labour with the other prisoners. Practitioner Ms. Du Yuhong from Shenyang was also tortured with the stretching method many times. Each round of torture lasted six to seven days. Ms. Wan Xiaohui from Dalian was tortured, giving her extremely high blood pressure. The guards inflicted blows to her head, using a small hammer at times.
The guards also threatened practitioner Ms. Liu Ronghua from Dalian, and after the Chinese New Year holiday, they transferred her to Donggang, which is a section of the camp known for severe torture.
The guards who participated in torture: Zhang Zhuohui, Zhang Jun, Zhang Huan, Zhang Lei and Zhang Xiurong.
