Outstanding Technician, Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Zhang Jianping Arrested; Hangzhou City 610 Office Agents Prevent Lawyers' Involvement

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Jianping is the deputy general manager of the Production Technology Department in the Southern Cement Company, Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province. He was arrested along with his colleague, Mr. Wei Xiang, on November 28th, 2010, by officers from the Xihu Police Department. The two practitioners have been held in custody for four months. During this time, 610 Office agents (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) have forbidden their family members from visiting them, have created difficulties for and threatened relatives, and have not allowed lawyers to meet with the two men, claiming that the case is "secret-related."

610 Office agents, state security officers and a professor from China University of Political Science and Law attempted to "reform" [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] Mr. Zhang and Mr. Wei following their arrest. At the same time, they blocked the news from the outside.

The two practitioners' relatives and friends have filed lawsuits against four 610 Office agents: Huang Baoxian, Wang Xiang, Yan Zhengman and Tu Zhilin; and also against the Xihu Scenic Area Police Department Domestic Security Division. They accused the responsible parties of the following:

1. Infringing upon a citizen's right to freedom of belief
2. Illegally depriving a citizen of his personal freedom
3. Making false accusations
4. Looting and destroying personal property, extortion
5. Not allowing family visits

They urged to hold all offenders accountable.

Mr. Zhang Jianping is the director of the Southern Cement and Mines Professional Committee and presides over cement mining work in the south. His company's executive vice president, Li Shuhai, commended Mr. Zhang, saying, "Losing Jianping will cost the Southern Cement Company several billion yuan." The China Cement Association recognised Mr. Zhang with an award for "Outstanding Contribution to Cement Mining" in 2009 for his excellent performance.

While in detention he won third prize for his professional paper. He should have been in Shenzhen City to give a speech on December 7th, 2010. He had also planned to visit Japan in January 2011 to exchange technical information.
