Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Wang Nanfang Abused with Many Torture Methods—Part 1

Mr. Wang Nanfang, from Qingyuan County, Fushun City, Liaoning Province, is being persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for believing in the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. As a result, gruesome scars cover his body. The following is an account of the persecution he suffered.

Tortured by Police from Qingyuan Township

Using the Beijing Olympic Games as an excuse to increase its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in 2008, the CCP arrested practitioners and detained them in prisons, forced labour camps, and brainwashing centres. Mr. Wang Nanfang was one of the arrested practitioners.

Arrested

Hou Shaowei, Sun Yeming, and a dozen other police officers broke into Mr. Wang's home by smashing in the door and windows at around 10:00 p.m. on June 28th, 2008. The police then forcibly arrested Mr. Wang and his 16-year-old son. As a result, his son's face was injured, as were his chest and arms. The police also confiscated Falun Gong books, computers, DVDs, over a dozen MP3 players, and more than 5,000 yuan¹ in cash.

The police took Mr. Wang and his son to Qingyuan Township Police Station after midnight. His son was detained for 19 hours before being released.

Hou Shaowei said to Mr. Wang, "The party pays me a salary, so I will do whatever I am asked to do. If I had failed to arrest you tonight, I would have lost my job. This was a decision from above." Mr. Wang advised him to have a conscience, make a clear distinction between good and bad, and told him that the crimes he commits will be traced back to him. Furthermore, it will be too late for regrets by the time the CCP is gone. Hou Shaowei didn't believe what Mr. Wang said and continued to follow the CCP in persecuting practitioners. He subsequently received retribution and died of a brain tumour at 38 years of age.

Beating

Wang Dong, an officer at the Qingyuan Police Station, slandered Falun Gong with the groundless “evil cult” propaganda while he was interrogating Mr. Wang on the morning of June 29th, 2008. Mr. Wang said to him, "No Chinese law stipulates that Falun Gong is a cult. Even the fourteen evil cult organisations designated by the CCP itself doesn't include Falun Gong. The CCP-controlled court's insistence that Falun Gong is an evil cult does not comply with Chinese law and has no legal basis." After hearing this, Wang Dong flared into a rage. He grabbed a copy of the criminal law book and slapped Mr. Wang's face, knocking him to the ground. He then punched and kicked him for more than half an hour. As a result, Mr. Wang's back was injured, his right leg became numb, and he had pain in his ribcage. His right hand was cuffed to the heating pipes, so he couldn't avoid the beatings. In addition, he was unable to get up. More than an hour later, Hou Shaowei, Sun Yeming, and others sent Mr. Wang to Qingyuan Detention Centre.

A black hood was placed over Mr. Wang's head and he was handcuffed. He was then taken to a different area where attempts were made to force him to sign a document. Mr. Wang refused and didn't answer any questions. It wasn't until 3:00 p.m. that Mr. Wang was sent back to the detention Centre.

Iron Chair and Six Electric Batons

Sun Yeming and Hou Shaowei didn't allow Mr. Wang to eat breakfast at 8:00 a.m. on July 9th, 2008. Instead, they put a hood over his head, cuffed him, and took him to the fourth floor of the Criminal Police Division of the Qingyuan Police Department. They tied his four limbs and head tightly to an iron chair. While Mr. Wang was in pain, Hou Shaowei and Sun Yeming tried to get information about other practitioners from him. He didn't cooperate with them. Hou Shaowei then said, "We can't fix you up, but we have able hands to deal with you today. Let's see whether you will talk. You should be wise, so that you won't be punished."

Since his head was still covered with the black hood, Mr. Wang didn't know who was there with Sun Yeming and Hou Shaowei. He felt that they were young and strong. At the beginning, these people said the same things and ordered him to answer their questions. At around 3:00 p.m., when Mr. Wang wasn't complying with their demands, they began to torture him First, they shocked him with electric batons. As soon as the first baton shocked him, Mr. Wang shouted, "Falun Gong is good! Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!" Miraculously the baton ran out of power. When the second baton barely touched his skin, he shouted again, "Falun Gong is good! Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!" The baton then immediately fell to the floor. Mr. Wang heard one police officer say, "This guy released energy that diverted the electric shock to me."

The guards then decided to recharge six batons, so they could use two batons at the same time to shock Mr. Wang's chest, back, arms, underarms, neck, mouth, lips and thighs until the batons were out of power. The officers would recharge the batons and continue shocking Mr. Wang. They also tortured Mr. Wang by force-feeding him alcohol, making him inhale cigarette smoke, and poking his ribs with a toothbrush.

The officers were young and strong. Although they were wearing only shorts, they still sweat profusely from torturing Mr. Wang. At that time, even though it was summer, the windows and door were closed because the police didn't want their crimes to be known by others. Mr. Wang's chest, back, arms, and underarms were covered with blisters and burns. It was a horrible sight. During the intervals of the electric shocks, the police forced-fed Mr. Wang with strong alcohol. One of them said, "You haven't had any alcohol for more than ten years. Today we will let you have enough." Each time the alcohol went into his lungs, Mr. Wang coughed and felt extreme pain. Only when he was out of breath did the guards stop. They force-fed him alcohol three times. During the third time, the bottle fell to the ground and smashed into pieces after Mr. Wang shouted, "Falun Gong is good! Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!" Only then did the police stop this torture.

The other torture the police used was called "counting the ribs" where they used a toothbrush to jab the ribs one after the other. The pain Mr. Wang experienced was beyond description.

Cigarette Smoke Torture

The evil police didn't get the information they wanted from Mr. Wang after all the tortures, so they began cigarette smoke torture. First they lit three cigarettes and put them under Mr. Wang's nose. They thought that wasn't enough smoke, so they used a piece of newspaper, rolled into a megaphone shape, held the cigarettes at the large end, and let the smoke go directly into Mr. Wang's nose through the small end of the cone. One of the officers shouted, "You quit smoking more than ten years ago. I'll let you have enough cigarettes today." Since Mr. Wang was tightly tied up, he couldn't move his body and couldn't avoid inhaling the smoke. Not long after, he lost consciousness. The police then filled a large plastic bag with water and poured it on Mr. Wang's head. When he regained consciousness, he felt extreme pain in his chest and coughed continuously. He also spat out a lot of sputum and blood and had difficulty breathing. One of the officers nonetheless began swearing at him.

When Mr. Wang became a bit more sober minded, the police continued with their interrogation. Since Mr. Wang hadn't cooperated with them, they repeated the inhumane torture, which lasted for six hours.

During the torture, Mr. Wang repeatedly told them, "What you are doing is trying to extort a confession by torture. You are breaking the law and you must bear the criminal responsibility for it. I also tell you that good brings rewards, while evil brings retribution. You should leave a way out for yourself." One of the police officers said, "In dealing with Falun Gong practitioners, extorting a confession by torture simply doesn't exist. The death of practitioners from beating is nothing, and is counted as suicide. You will never win a lawsuit no matter where you go! Nothing we do will be considered excessive since Falun Gong is the enemy of the people." Then with an electric baton in his hand he shouted, "You want to save people, right? I will kill you first!"
