Seriously Ill Due to Persecution, Mr. Wang Hongwei Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison

Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Wang Hongwei and Ms. Wang Haixia (Wang Lili) were arrested in November 2009, after being homeless for five years. In July 2010, Wang Hongwei was sentenced to 10 years in prison and Wang Haixia to six years. Mr. Wang has been seriously ill as a result of persecution. He was rejected by the prison twice due to his poor health.

Mr. Wang Hongwei and his wife, Ms. Wang Haixia, from Zhucheng City, Shandong Province, have been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for a long time. In 2005, the couple was persecuted into homelessness and forced to leave their 11-year-old son and elderly parents. After that, the CCP formed a “Special Case Group” in order to arrest them. Their information was posted on the Internet. 150 thousand yuan was offered for each of their arrests. Their relatives and friends were threatened. In November, 2009, both of them were arrested after being homeless for nearly five years.

In July 2010, a secret trial was held at Zhucheng City Court under the order of the Zhucheng City CCP secretary. Based on information from inside sources, the CCP secretary gave direct orders to the court, tellling the judge to sentence both of them to long prison terms. As a result, Mr. Wang Hongwei was sentenced to 10 years and his wife to six. Because of being homeless for five years and being persecuted in a detention centre for more than a year, they were extremely weak. Both of them have heart disease. Mr. Wang has high blood pressure (high/low 240/140).

On January 11th, 2011, he was transferred to Shandong Province Prison and his wife to Shandong Province Women's Prison. All the male Falun Gong practitioners from Shandong Province who received sentences (more than 300) are detained on the 6th floor of the 11th District in Shandong Province Prison. All the female practitioners are in Shandong Province Women's Prison.

Mr. Wang was refused by the prison due to his poor health and taken back to the Zhucheng City Detention Centre. The Party secretary immediately ordered the Zhucheng City Court not to release him no matter how serious his illnesses were.

On February 11th, Mr. Wang was sent to Shandong Province Prison again by the Zhucheng City Public Security Department. The prison rejected him again for the same reason. Mr. Wang Hongwei is now in critical condition.

The Weifang City Party secretary, Zhucheng City Party secretary, and Zhucheng City Court have claimed that Falun Gong was a political issue, so they will never release him, and, if he dies, they won't be responsible.

Falun Gong has been seriously persecuted in Zhucheng City. Since the CCP started to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, at least 2 practitioners from Zhucheng City are known to have been persecuted to death, two of them in the Zhucheng City Detention Centre, including Liu Xiumei (in 2008) and Yang Guizhen (in 2001).
