Mr. Yang Jianpo Seriously Ill Due to Abuse at Jidong Prison--Wife Appeals for His Release

Mr. Yang Jianpo from Langfang City, Hebei Province was arrested on December 28th, 2010, by police from the Langfang Development District. He was taken to the Jidong Prison that same day. He is extremely emaciated.

Mr. Yang's wife, Ms. Nie Chunling, wrote the following appeal demanding that officials immediately release her husband:

I recently visited my husband at the Jidong Prison. He lay on a bed, emaciated. He is 6 feet tall, but looked like he weighed less than 110 pounds.

My husband had been persecuted numerous times [for his belief in Falun Gong]. He was subjected to forced labour in the Wanzhuang Forced Labour Camp in Langfang City in September 1999. He was then arrested in Tangshan City on the evening of March 30th, 2003, by officers from the Fengrun District Police Department. He was tortured to the point of near-death during 38 days of detention. The police eventually told us, his family members, to take him home. On the afternoon of February 20th, 2004, officers from the Guangyang District Police Department in Langfang City arrested him again. He held a 108-day hunger strike to protest the persecution. His weight dropped from 198 pounds to around 88 pounds.

My husband was arrested again on February 5th, 2006, for trying to secure the release of fellow practitioners. He was subsequently sentenced to six years in prison. He held hunger strikes over the course of two years and eight months, and was released from the Jidong Prison on September 29th, 2008. He was only skin and bones when he returned home. Almost all of his internal organs were on the verge of failing. He couldn't take care of himself.

When my husband's health had recovered just a bit, in 2009, officers from the local police department, the police station, and the Jidong Prison frequently harassed him at home.

He was arrested on his way to work at around 8:00 a.m. on December 28th, 2010. Police from the Development District made the arrest and took him to the Langfang City Development District Police Department. Guangyang District Domestic Security Division head Huang contacted the Jidong Prison and took him there at 3:00 p.m. that same day.

I strongly demand that Jidong Prison and related departments in Langfang City immediately and unconditionally release my husband, Mr. Yang Jianpo.
