The West Lake District Court of Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, recently released the following information: At 9:00 a.m. on June 14th, the court held a trial in which Mr. Zhang Jianping, Deputy General Manager of production for the Hangzhou Cement Corporation, and his co-worker, Mr. Wei Xiang, were prosecuted for putting up several Falun Gong posters in the West Lake District on November 28th, 2010.
On December 31st, 2010, the practitioners were arrested by the West Lake District Procuratorate of Hangzhou City. On February 14th, Chen Jian, the chief of the West Lake View Resort District Branch Police Bureau, filed charges against the two practitioners for “sabotaging the law.” On April 13th, Sun Jun and Su Yongda from the West Lake District Procuratorate charged them again under the same pretext. On April 16th, Zhang Qi and Zhu Hong of the West Lake District Court also charged them and later detained them in the Hangzhou City Detention Centre, where they still are today.
Mr. Zhang Jianping and Mr. Wei Xiang were not allowed to meet with their families. Their homes were ransacked, and their Falun Gong books were confiscated. They were also detained because they accessed the Minghui website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom), and downloaded and printed materials for distribution that detailed the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Their equipment, such as computers, printers, and USB storage units, were used as evidence against them.
Chinese Communist Party officials from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) labelled the case the “Secret Case of the West Lake View Resort Branch, Hangzhou Police Bureau” and prevented the two practitioners from hiring lawyers. The proceedings were classified as “secret” because of the following assumption: Leaders of the Hangzhou Cement Corporation had received emails containing Falun Gong information, to there must be Falun Gong practitioners in the corporation making contact with people overseas.
Officials from the Domestic Security Division prevented Mr. Zhang and Mr. Wei from meeting with their co-workers, family members, and lawyers. The officials also threatened Mr. Zhang Jianping's family and forced them to cease their efforts to rescue him.
Authorities were also shaken because people overseas had been telephoning the officials that were mistreating the practitioners and telling them to stop. Officials said that Mr. Zhang and Mr. Wei were “central leaders,” coordinating the efforts of these overseas practitioners. The authorities no longer label this a secret case.
In addition to overseas practitioners calling and demanding Mr. Zhang and Mr. Wei's unconditional release, Falun Gong practitioners from Hong Kong often telephoned as part of an effort to rescue the two practitioners. However, these positive efforts have become an excuse for the CCP to further persecute and defame these kind people.
