Two Practitioners from Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province Arrested and Incarcerated at a Brainwashing Facility

Falun Gong Practitioners Ms. He Qiuling and Ms. Wang Xinlian from Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province were arrested on the morning of June 9th by officers from the Baoqiao Police Department. The two practitioners have been subjected to arrests and detention numerous times over the past ten years for conducting themselves according to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Their families have been frequently harassed, been placed under great pressure and have suffered mental torment.

Ms. He Qiuling, 54, from Xi'an City, was arrested on the morning of June 9th as she spoke with people about Falun Gong. Officers from the Baqiao Police Department made the arrest and ransacked her home in her family's absence. They took her computer and other personal belongings. Ms. He is currently in the Xuanpingyuan Brainwashing Centre in Beijiao.

In 2000, Ms. He went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and was subsequently arrested and subjected to forced labour for one year at the Shaanxi Province Women's Forced Labour Camp. Her term was extended by three months because she refused to submit to the Communist Party demands. She was later sent to a brainwashing facility for five months. She has been incarcerated in the brainwashing facility several times. The perpetrators constantly harassed her at home, bringing huge pressure to her family. This was her fifth arrest and detention since the persecution of Falun Gong began.

Ms. Wang Xinlian, from Hanzhong City, was arrested on the morning of June 9th as she spoke with people about Falun Gong. Officers from the Baqiao Police Department made the arrest. They broke into her daughter's home, and confiscated her daughter's computer and other personal belongings. Ms. Wang is currently in the same brainwashing facility as Ms. He.

In 2000, Ms. Wang went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong and was subsequently held in the Hanzhong Detention Centre, where she was subjected to physical abuse and torture. Her leather coat was torn as a result of the police's beatings. They stole 1,700 yuan¹ from the pocket of her coat and put her in shackles for 14 days. After one-month of detention, Ms. Wang was sent to the Shaanxi Province Women's Forced Labour Camp to be held for one and a half years. While there, she was severely abused and tortured.

Ms. Wang was subjected to another two and a half years of forced labour in 2003. Her term was supposed to expire on March 2nd, 2006, but was extended by one month because she refused to “transform”. Division head Wang Li tried to force Ms. Wang to read a book slandering Falun Gong, but she refused. Wang Li was furious and handcuffed her to a bed's legs for seven days. He did not let her use the restroom or sit down.

On July 6th, 2005, deputy head Dong Yanling handcuffed Ms. Wang and put her in solitary confinement for three days. Ms. Wang protested the persecution by doing the sitting meditation. Political head Zhang Xiaoling led a gang of inmates and put her into a strait jacket. She was forbidden to use the toilet, and she was deprived of daily necessities like a towel and tissue paper. She was also deprived of taking a shower and changing clothes in the hot summer. She was forced to stand still facing a wall for 29 days.

For many years, Ms. Wang Xinlian mostly lived with her daughter. In 2008, local police often harassed her daughter at her home.
