Ms. Li Li tortured to the brink of death

On March 16th, 2011, Ms. Li Li from the Gulou District in Nanjing was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in front of Jinrunfa Supermarket on Danfeng Street with her mother, Ms. Yuan Yuzhen, when they were seized by officers from the Xuanwu District Police Station. Ms. Li was imprisoned in the Nanjing City Detention Centre. Ms. Yuan was sent to the Gulou District Brainwashing Centre. Ms. Yuan, who is in her 70s, has since returned home.

This is the fourth time that Ms. Li has been arrested. This time, she was sentenced to a year of forced labour. After being admitted to Judong Forced Labour Camp, she began a hunger strike.

Four years ago in 2007, the third time that Ms. Li was arrested, she was imprisoned in the Seventh Team of the Judong Women's Forced Labour Camp in Jiangsu Province, where she suffered brutal torture, humiliation, and abuse at the hands of guards and criminal inmates under the instigation of the police. Originally healthy and strong, she became frail and emaciated, and her hair turned white. Both her legs became very swollen, and she was so weak she could barely move.

Ms. Li has now been on a hunger strike for several months as a protest, and she is once again emaciated. Yet, the prison police continue to torture her using a variety of inhumane methods. She is now near death.

Ms. Xiong Chunyun sentenced to forced labour; her whereabouts unknown

In late May 2011, Ms. Xiong Chunyun from the Qinhuai District in Nanjing was arrested. She refused to cooperate with the brainwashing sessions and was consequently sentenced to a year of forced labour. She was transferred on July 1st. Her current whereabouts are unknown to her family members. Her husband was ordered to sign a notification of forced labour on her behalf, but he refused to.
