On July 4th, practitioners Ms. Zhan Zhongrong (53 years old) and Ms. Bi Lanxiang (70 years old) from Yantai Development District, Shandong Province, were arrested and detained by the Fulai Police Substation. Ms. Zhan Zhongrong’s son went several times to the national security team and asked to see his mother and her arrest papers, but his request was denied.
He went to the legal department of the local government to ask for a reconsideration of the decision on July 13th. The officer once again refused him, using the excuse that he did not have the detention paper. He then went to the Political and Legal Committee, where the person in charge said, “I am aware of this case and since this is the first time for your mother, and she is not a Yantai resident, on 20th July come back and you can take her home.” He believed what the officer said .
Ms. Zhan’s son received a notice on July 19th, from Nian Weilai (a police officer who for several years has specialised in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners). It said, “Your mother was sentenced to forced labour or one and a half years.”
Her son, who had been depending on his mother for his survival, could not understand why she had been detained and sentenced to forced labour because she believes in Truth-Compassion-Forbearance.
The other practitioner, Ms. Bi Lanxiang, was released on July 20th, but Ms. Zhan Zhongrong was indeed sent to labour camp.
