Ms. Lin Fuhua was a Middle School teacher in the Xiqing District, Tianjin. In May 2002 she was sentenced to four years in prison for practising Falun Gong, and was released in May 2006. Her family was afraid of the implications from her arrest and cut off all ties with her. She was sentenced to two years of forced labour in 2009, and was incarcerated in the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp and the Hohhot Women's Forced Labour Camp. Ms. Lin is now homeless.
Her Family Broken after Four Years of Imprisonment
Ms. Lin had a beautiful son and a husband who loved her. She got along with her family, in-laws, and friends. She followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and was kind to others.
In May 2002, the police from the Xiqing District broke into her home and arrested her. She was subsequently imprisoned in the Tianjin Women's Prison for four years, and released in May 2006. Afraid of being implicated due to her belief, her family cut off all ties with her. She lost her family and job. To make a living, Ms. Lin did odd jobs in Beijing.
Held in the Haidian Detention Centre
At noon on June 30th, 2009, Ms. Lin was reported to the authorities for talking about Falun Gong to shoppers in Dinghao Electronic City in Zhongguancun, Beijing. Officers from the Zhongguancun Police Station arrested her and three other Falun Gong practitioners. The officers beat them and ordered store security personnel to beat them as well.
When they were detained at the Zhongguancun Police Station, the practitioners refused to answer questions or submit to physical exams. The officers then sent them to the Haidian Detention Centre without following legal procedures.
Ms. Lin went on a hunger strike and remained silent to protest their arrest. In order to find out her identity, the guards had an inmate pretended to be sympathetic towards her, but she saw through the deceit. On the third day, the guards had inmates brutally force-feed her. Inmates Lan Yang, Wang Cui, and Zhu Hui eagerly helped the guards to persecute the practitioners.
Incarcerated in the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp
Ms. Lin was subsequently subjected to two years of forced labour. She was among the half a dozen women practitioners who were taken to the Fourth Ward of the Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp on November 17th, 2009.
Ms. Lin rejected taking a pre-entry physical examination, maintained her innocence in practising Falun Gong, and asked for an immediate release. The guards dragged her to the toilet, pushed her to the ground, and then dragged her to have a physical exam later after she was exhausted. They asked some perfunctory questions, said she had passed the exam, and admitted her to the labour camp.
The Fourth Ward was formerly known as the Beijing Dispatch Office. It targeted newcomers of the camp. Its guards intentionally abused any practitioners who did not write a guarantee statement to renounce practising Falun Gong. They did not allow the practitioners to use the toilet, wash, sleep, or even eat if they insisted that they were sent to the camp. To be allowed to meet any basic human physical needs such as eating, using the toilet, or washing, a prisoner had to repeatedly speak in a way that they were told, until the guards were satisfied.
Ms. Lin protested this human rights abuse. They locked her in a clothes drying room, and punished her by forcing her to sit on a high chair all day in the cold weather. The guards took turns watching her until they got too cold. The guards also constantly verbally abused Ms. Lin.
After about two weeks, they moved Ms. Lin from the clothes drying room to the Group Two area, but still made her sit on the high chair for 17 hours a day. The guards did not allow anybody to talk to Ms. Lin.
Secretly Transferred to the Hohhot Women's Forced Labour Camp
Ms. Lin and five other practitioners were secretly transferred to the Second Ward of the Hohhot Women's Forced Labour Camp in Inner Mongolia on January 21st, 2010. She was locked in solitary confinement, as she refused to renounce Falun Gong. She has refused to give in to the forced labor camp's brainwashing efforts, and refused to write the three statements regardless of the threats and intimidation. The abuse continued until she was released on June 29th, 2011.
Ms. Lin no longer has a home and has to move around from place to place to avoid further persecution.
