Chongqing Couple Zhang Quanliang and Liu Zhilan Arrested Again

At 8:00 a.m. on October 11th, Chongqing Gaoxin District Falun Gong practitioners Mr. Zhang Quanliang and his wife Ms. Liu Zhilan were arrested by officers from the Xinsanshu Community Office in Dadukou District, Chongqing while on their way to work. Their whereabouts are unknown.

At 7:40 a.m. on August 3rd, staff from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) of Xinshancun Community Office, Dadukou District failed in an attempt to arrest Ms. Liu and take her to a brainwashing centre. Several people witnessed the attempted abduction and condemned the officials. The 610 Office personnel knew that their actions were not justified, so they gave up their attempt and left quietly.

Ms. Liu's mother, Ms. Gu Zhiyi, is 77 years old, and was a senior lecturer at the Chongqing Taxes School. She received the award of “Sichuan Province Outstanding Teacher”. She was also a volunteer director of the previous Falun Gong Assistance Centre of Chongqing. After she began practising Falun Gong, all of the diseases that she suffered for many years disappeared, and she also became a more open-minded and cheerful person. Her husband Mr. Liu Jianhua's cerebral arteriosclerosis was also cured soon after he began practising Falun Gong.

Ms. Liu's husband, Mr. Zhang Quanliang, was a computer engineer at the Chongqing Coal Designing Institute of China National Coal Group Corp. He earned the Third Level Prize of the Chongqing Scientific and Technological Achievement Award. Ms. Liu is a rare government official who resisted corruption.
However, since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began its persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, Ms. Liu's family has endured numerous arrests, trials, and forced labour. Ms. Liu's mother Ms. Gu was sentenced to three years in 2000; Ms. Liu was placed in a forced labour camp for one year in 2005; Mr. Zhang was placed in a forced labour camp for three years in 2000 and was severely tortured – nearly to death, resulting in the deafness of his right ear. He was arrested again in December 2005 and sentenced to five years of imprisonment.

Mr. Zhang was released in December 2010. His mind and body were severely injured after so many years of persecution. He experiences dizziness quite often, and becomes emotionally upset. Ms. Liu's father is 79 years old and is paralysed, so he is restricted to his home. Her son is only three years old, and her sister has suffered from schizophrenia for many years. They all need her to take care of them. Mr. Zhang's 77-year-old father and 70-year-old plus mother both need care as well.
