Elderly Ms. Sun Zhuoying Sentenced Again

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Sun Zhouying was arrested on April 24th, 2011 and detained in the Pudong New District Detention Centre. It was heard that she was sentenced to five years in prison. Her family members were not informed about her trial and have not received any notification of a verdict or sentence. This is the second time that Ms. Sun has been sentenced to prison. She was also sentenced to a forced labour camp after serving the first prison sentence.

In 2000, Ms. Sun was sentenced to four years in Shanghai Women's Prison. She was persecuted to the point that she showed blood in her stool. A few months after being released from the prison, she was sentenced to Shanghai Women’s Forced Labour Camp. In the camp, she was persecuted to the point of gastrointestinal bleeding three times. Ms. Sun's son was a computer engineer. He was persecuted to mental disability in Shanghai Dafeng Farm and has never recovered.

While Ms. Sun was jailed in Shanghai Women's Prison, she was brutally persecuted, including being seriously beaten. However, she did not give up her belief in Falun Gong. In the Fifth Team, Ms. Sun was forced to stand and sit for long periods of time and was deprived of sleep. Three or four guards beat her at the same time. In addition, she was forced to clean a big group restroom by herself but was not allowed to use it. All her daily needs had to be done in her cell.

The guards refused to let Ms. Sun clean up her stool in a bedpan, and as a result, her cellmates hated her. She was given only a little hot water to wash herself with, and she developed a skin disease. During the entire jail term, Ms. Sun hardly had a shower. At the end of her sentence, she was transferred to a brainwashing centre and held there for two months. In April 2005, Ms. Sun was arrested and sentenced to one and a half years in Shanghai Women's Forced Labour Camp. Once, in order to stop the director of the camp from defaming Falun Gong, she shouted, “Falun Gong is good!” As a result, she was locked in solitary confinement and her period of incarceration was extended by two months.
