Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Mingrong from Chengdu City was arrested and taken to the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre around September 7th. (To disguise its true function from the outside world, the brainwashing centre is officially called the “Chengdu City Law Education Centre.”) Ms. Wang died from severe physical abuse and mistreatment around September 17th, less than ten days after being incarcerated. According to a witness, she was subjected to beatings and her body was covered in bruises.
The authorities of the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre tried to cover up information regarding her death, and the fact that they continue to incarcerate other Falun Gong practitioners in the centre. After Ms. Wang Mingrong was tortured to death, several more practitioners have been detained.
Ms. Wang Mingrong, 53, lived at 6 Shuyue Road, Pulosiwang Neighbourhood, Chadianzi community, the Jinniu District, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. Ms. Wang was head nurse at the Chengdu City Kangfu Hospital. She was well-known because of her work ethic, but was fired from her job in 2001 because she practised Falun Gong. Around September 7th, 2011, officers from the Jinquan Street Affairs Office, Jinquan Police Station, and 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) agents in the Jinniu District arrested her and took her to the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre. According to an insider, Ms. Wang went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution. As a result, she was force-fed and violently beaten.
Jinniu District 610 Office agents exerted great pressure on Ms. Wang's family so that they would not reveal any detailed information about her death. Most of Ms. Wang's friends have yet to hear about her death. Even her neighbour was scared to talk about her death.
The 610 Office system was established on June 10th, 1999 as an organization that does not answer to the law, its power being above all levels of government, including law enforcement and the court system. It was established to persecute innocent Falun Gong practitioners, and it tries to force practitioners to accept communist brainwashing, so that they will stop practising Falun Gong. The brainwashing centres are called “Legal Education Schools,” or “Legal Education Centres,” but they are in fact extra-judicial prisons.
On the afternoon of September 23rd, Mr. Lan Qidi was arrested by agents from the Shahebao 610 Office in Jinjiang District when he was distributing materials explaining the facts about Falun Gong around a petrol station in Wuguiqiao bus station. He was detained and abused in the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre that same day.
On the morning of October 9th, Xinjin County 610 Office agents arrested elderly practitioner Ms. Pan Tingying, and took her directly to Xinjin Brainwashing centre.
On October 10th, agents from the Qinglong Community 610 Office and Bailian Community Administration workers arrested Ms. Chen Guozhen at her home, and forcibly took her to the Xinjin Brainwashing centre.
According to incomplete statistics, since its establishment in 2003, more than 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners have been held in the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre, where they have been subjected to physical torture and mental torment. They have been injected with drugs that damage the central nervous system, and their food and drinking water are often laced with unknown substances,causing them great harm. Due to the severe abuse and pressure, many have suffered from nervous breakdowns, developed mental impairment, become physically disabled, and developed various illnesses. Some have even died as a result of brutal persecution. Practitioners who died in the Xinjin brainwashing centre include Ms. Deng Shufen, Ms. Li Xiaowen, Mr. Xie Deqing, and Ms. Liu Shenglu. The practitioners who suffered a mental collapse as a result of persecution include Ms. Zhu Xia, Ms. Liu Ying and Ms. Tan Shaolan.
Mr. Xie Deqing was a retired engineer of Chengdu City Mine Detection Institute. He was arrested on April 29th, 2009, and taken to the Xinjin Brainwashing Centre immediately. He died within 30 days of being taken there. He told his family with great emotion, about how the brainwashing center's authorities took him to the hospital, supposedly for physical exams. He was instead injected with many unknown drugs, after which he could not eat or drink for almost two weeks. His entire body turned black when he passed away.
