Wuhan City Practitioner Mr. Zhang Yunliu Still Detained After Labour Camp Term Expires

Mr. Zhang Yunliu is a practitioner from the Huangpi District of Wuhan City. After he was detained at the Hewan Forced Labour Camp for one and a half years, agents from the Wuhan 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and Huangpi 610 Office secretly transferred him in September 2011. His current detention location is unknown, but it is likely the Hubei Province Legal Education Centre.

Despite its name, the Hubei Province Legal Education Centre is in essence a brainwashing facility. After practitioner Ms. Wang Yujie was abused there for over two months, she died on September 3rd. She was only 24 years old and was previously detained at the Wuhan City Women's Labour Camp.

Mr. Zhang began to practise Falun Gong when he was a high school student. He is a good person and is honest, modest, and kind.

Huangpi 610 Office officials sent him to the Hewan Labour Camp in Wuhan City in June 2000 with a term of one year. While detained there, he suffered all kinds of torture and family visits were prohibited. For one year, he was not allowed to change his clothes, and had no toothbrush or toothpaste. In addition to being deprived of sleep, he was forced to stand for long periods of time, perform military march drills, and do long-term slave labour. When he had to harvest water plants in a pond, his pants were soaking wet. However, he had no clothes to change into despite the cold weather. When his labour camp term expired in June, it was extended by six months.

Mr. Zhang was then sent to the Huangpi Brainwashing Centre in late 2002 and detained there for one month. During that time, officials forced him to watch videos and read books that slandered Falun Gong. He was not allowed to sleep unless he wrote the Three Statements to give up his practice and defame Falun Gong.

After being released, Mr. Zhang went to Beijing on foot to appeal. Caidian Town police detained him and beat him brutally; his entire body was covered in bruises.

When working in Beijing and explaining the facts about Falun Gong in March 2010, Mr. Zhang was arrested by police. Later, he was kept at the Hewan Labour Camp for one and a half years. 610 Office officials secretly transferred him afterwards and continued to detain him.
