The Mishan Court planned to try Mr. Zhang Yutang on December 12th. Mr. Zhang was brutally tortured after being arrested on August 12th, and four of his ribs were broken. He often fainted and his weight rapidly decreased.
On August 12th, Mr. Zhang went to the brainwashing centre to request the release of Pai Yong, the wife of his nephew. He was detained and brutally beaten.
Chen Hailei, one of the people who beat Mr. Zhang, made a false claim to the court, saying that Mr. Zhang had broken his right hand. He requested compensation of 79,000 yuan1. Mishan Court tried Mr. Zhang on November 21st. The court planned to conduct civil proceedings and get the money first, and have a criminal trial later. Mr. Zhang was not present at the time. His family asked two attorneys to defend him. The court said there would be an adjournment because of conciliation, leaving the case unsettled.
Mr. Zhang's family has not seen him since he was arrested. After the attorneys met Mr. Zhang, his family learned that four of his ribs had been broken and that he often had headaches and fainted. His weight dropped from about 140 pounds to about 97 pounds. His family and attorneys submitted an application that he be released for medical treatment on the morning of November 21st, however the court has not responded.
Mr. Zhang Yutang's family went to the detention centre and asked to visit him. Warden Cui denied that Mr. Zhang's bones were broken and said he could guarantee it. But he said Mr. Zhang feigned death sometimes, and he could be revived when his Renzhong acupuncture point was stabbed. Mr. Zhang's situation has become very serious.
