Former Russian Language Department Director Zhang Yuhua of Nanjing Normal University Arrested Again

On the night of November 12th, Xiao Ningjian, along with 610 Office agents (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and local police officers, arrested Dr. Zhang Yuhua. She was taken to the Nanjing Detention Centre on November 16th.

Dr. Zhang graduated with a Ph.D. degree in Russian. She was an associate professor and former director of the Russian Language Department at Nanjing Normal University. She loved to teach, and earned Excellent Teaching Achievement awards many times. She was a deputy of the Twelfth Nanjing People's Congress and a member of its legal system committee. After she started practicing Falun Gong in 1997, she applied the principles she gained from studying Falun Gong to her teaching and research. She won favourable comments from her students, and her articles were praised by her peers.

Because she persisted in her belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, she was persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). She was sentenced to four years in prison and twice sent to a forced labour camp. When she was detained in the Nanjing Women's Prison, she was deprived of sleep for an extended period of time. The guards poured cold water on her and did not allow her to buy necessities, including food and feminine hygiene products.

Toward the end of 2010, Xiao Ningjian arrested Wu Shuzhen and two other practitioners in Taowu Town, Nanjing. Dr. Zhang had been released from the forced labour camp just a month prior. After hearing about the practitioners' arrest, she and Ms. Liu Kaimei accompanied Ms. Wu Shunzhen's family to the Taowu Police Station to request the release of the arrested three practitioners. They were detained by Xiao Ningjian for no reason. Ms. Liu Kaimei's husband, Zhang Xuefeng, asked Xiao Ningjian to release them immediately after he heard about the situation. He formally challenged Xiao Ningjian twice. Xiao finally released Ms. Liu and Dr. Zhang.

In May 2011, Mr. Zhang Xuefeng, Ms. Liu Kaimei, and Mr. Ma Zhengyu were arrested by Xiao Ningjian and other police officers. Dr. Zhang actively searched for attorneys and helped try to free the practitioners. She was regarded as a thorn in the CCP's side. In order to continue rescuing others and avoid being arrested, Dr. Zhang was forced to become homeless.
