Mrs. Zhao Guichun from Chifeng Detained and on Hunger Strike for Several Days

Falun Gong practitioner Mrs. Zhao Guichun has been forced to become homeless and destitute as a result of persecution by the Chinese Communist Party. On the night of December 7th, she was arrested in her hometown in Laoguandi Town, Jianping County, Liaoning Province, by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) police. Liu Zhenting, chief of the Kelaqinqi Domestic Security Division in Chifeng, and other officers took her to the Jinshan Detention Centre in Kelaqinqi that night.

Mrs. Zhao's three sisters went to Jinshan and demanded that the authorities release her immediately. Liu Zhenting and other officers turned them down.

On January 6th, Ms. Zhao's family called Liu Zhenting. Liu Zhenting said Mrs. Zhao would be released a few days later. On January 7th, Mrs. Zhao's sister went to Jinshan again and asked to visit her. The detention centre again refused to allow a visit. Her family called Liu Zhenting again. Liu Zhenting said, “I have submitted a proposal to detain her for a three-year sentence to be served outside of prison. Why don't you ask others to help handle this right away?” His implication was for them to quickly pay money to get her out. Mrs. Zhao's family inquired about her health again and again. At first, Liu Zhenting did not give clear answers. Due to her family's insistence, he finally said, “Zhao Guichun does not eat. Her health is not good.”

On January 9th, from an insider, Mrs. Zhao's family verified that she had been on a protest hunger strike for a long time and her current condition was worrying. The guards have all along created a lot of difficulty for her family and have not allow them to visit her. Recently, the guards called Mrs. Zhao's oldest sister in Liaoning Province, asking her to persuade Mrs. Zhao to eat. It was the first time that a guard called Mrs. Zhao's family, which indicates that her situation is grave. After learning of Mrs. Zhao's situation, her family became distraught.
