Ms. He Wenjun from Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province was arrested in September 2009. She was injected in her arm with unknown substances while she was held in a detention centre. After the injection, she developed severe oedema all over her body, had difficulty breathing, and her arms and breasts swelled and were in continuous pain. She died in October 2010.
Ms. He started practising Falun Gong in 1995. After she graduated from college, she worked at the Shanxi Province Machinery Construction Company. She later left the company and did odd jobs.
In early September 2009, a practitioner from the Taiyuan Radiation Protection Research Institute went to Beijing on business. He went to Tiananmen Square to appeal against the persecution of Falun Gong and was subsequently arrested by Beijing police. Four practitioners in Taiyuan were implicated, one of whom was Ms. He Wenjun. Beijing police collaborated with Taiyuan police to arrest the five practitioners and take them to a police station. They later transferred them to a detention centre.
While in the detention centre, the guard injected Ms. He in her arm with unknown substances against her will. Shortly afterward, Ms. He's arms and breasts were in pain and swelled up. After being detained for more than 20 days, she was sent to the Xindian Forced Labour Camp, where the officials refused to accept her because of the extreme condition of her arms and breasts.
After returning home, Ms. He's husband took her to a hospital. Doctors examined her many times, but other than the external swelling, they couldn't find any other symptoms of illness. They finally decided to treat her condition as cancer. After one year of suffering and torment, Ms. He Wenjun passed away in October 2010, survived by her elderly parents, husband, and child.
