Outstanding Teacher Sentenced to Ten Years in Prison

Ms. Wu Jinling is an outstanding teacher from Taigu County No. 2 Middle School. She is also the director of the Mental Health Education Centre and a licensed psychologist. Her outstanding performance in her job won her numerous awards and excellent reviews from students and parents.

On June 16th, 2010, the vice principle of the school, Cheng Jikang, held Ms. Wu until 2 a.m. the following day. On June 23rd, Cheng Jikang notified Ms. Wu that, according to the school board's decision, she was suspended from teaching. Ms. Wu asked for documentation of the decision, but was told there was none. She was released after the Minghui/Clearwisdom website published the perpetrators' phone numbers.

On January 30th, 2011, 610 Office agents (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) from Shanxi Province and the local level, along with the local police department, sent over a dozen plainclothes police officers to raid Ms. Wu's home. On February 1st, Ms. Li Xiaoyun, another teacher, this one from Xiangfen County No.3 Middle School in Shanxi Province, age 40 and homeless due to the persecution, was also arrested. All her belongings, valued at hundreds of yuan¹, were confiscated. Another practitioner arrested was retired policeman Mr. An, who is in his 60s.

Ms. Wu Jinling and Ms. Li Xiaoyun were held in Yuci Detention Centre for over six months and secretly sentenced on August 2nd, by Taigu County Court. The Court changed the location of the trial at the last minute and did not notify the family or lawyers. Judge Luo Mingli announced the verdicts: Wu Jinling, ten years; Li Xiaoyun, ten years (later changed to 8 years); and the retired policeman, 4 years in prison.

Ms. Wu and Ms. Li are being held in the Shanxi Woman's Prison. Ms. Wu's family visiting rights have been suspended because she refuses to give up Falun Gong.
