Four-and-a-Half-Year Sentence for Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Hu Huomei

Ms. Hu Huomei of Nanchang County, Jiangxi Province, was arrested on September 25th, 2011 just because she practises Falun Gong. She refused to confess to any crimes forged by the authorities or to sign any legal document stating she would no longer follow the principles of Falun Gong. The Nanchang County Court sentenced Ms. Hu to four-and-a-half years in prison. She appealed the sentence.

On the morning of September 25, 2011, Ms. Hu and six other practitioners went to Dutou Township, Nanchang County, to hand out Shen Yun Performing Arts DVDs. A local resident who did not understand the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong reported the group to the police. Officers from the local police station arrested the seven practitioners and sent them to Nanchang County Detention Centre.

All seven were female. The police searched the house of one practitioner but found nothing illegal. The police searched Ms. Hu's house twice within a week after her arrest and did not find anything incriminating.

The Shen Yun shows promote traditional Chinese culture, and the persecution of Falun Gong is depicted in some of the presentations.

We hope that the Nanchang County officials will stop participating in the persecution initiated by former leader Jiang Zemin and carried out by his regime. The officials should uphold justice and follow their conscience so they can have a good future.
