Wife Speaks Out Against Unjust Sentence of Mr. Tang Jian from Chongqing

Mr. Tang Jian was sentenced to a three-year prison term by the Nan'an District Court in Chongqing on March 16th, 2012. Mr. Tang, from the Nan'an District, in Chongqing, was arrested at work five months ago. He is appealing to the Chongqing Fifth Middle Court.

Mr. Tang graduated from the graduate school of Southwest Petroleum Institution (now called Southwest Petroleum University) in 1999. To be admitted to the doctorate programme, the institution demanded that he submit a guarantee promising not to appeal for the right to practise Falun Gong in Beijing. Mr. Tang rejected the condition. Because of his outstanding academic achievement, the institution hired him as a teacher. He was imprisoned for four years for practising Falun Gong, from 2002 to 2006.

The following is his wife's plea for justice and his release.

I am 32 years old, from the Nan'an District, Chongqing. My husband, Mr. Tang Jian, 37, was arrested while working at his office at Chongqing Jiaotong University, Zhongcheng Prestressed Engineering Technology Co. by officers from the Haitangxi Police Station in Nan'an District on November 1st, 2011. He has been detained at the Chongqing Nan'an District Detention Centre for more than five months.

His first trial was in the Chongqing Nan'an District Court on February 13th, 2012. He was scheduled to be released the same day because there was no evidence against him, but he was nonetheless detained. They fabricated evidence and the court unfairly sentenced him to a three-year prison term on March 16th. My husband, Mr. Tang Jian is appealing to the Chongqing Fifth Middle Court.

The sentence came out of the blue. I felt like the sky was falling. Every cell in my body felt as though being torn apart. The pain was indescribable. My heart felt like it would explode, and blood rushed to my throat. I was not able to breathe and the smell of blood filled the air. I collapsed. I was not able to eat, drink, or sleep. My hair fell out in clumps. I looked like I had aged ten years in a day.

My Husband Is a Good Person Among Good Persons After Practising Falun Gong

My husband had been weak and frequently ill since he was young. Hoping to improve his health, he started to practise Falun Gong in college. Thereafter, he has been strict with himself in following the standard of Zhen-Shan-Ren (Truthfulness-Benevolence-Forbearance) and being a good person at all times. His mind and body have experienced enormous changes. He developed a peaceful heart, a healthy body, and a stronger motivation toward his academic studies. He easily passed graduate school tests and doctorate programme tests. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began persecuting Falun Gong practitioners on July 20th 1999, the school didn't allow him to continue his doctorate programme because he persisted in his beliefs. But my husband was truly an outstanding scholar. The school made an exception and hired him as a teacher. He worked hard and was dedicated.

My husband was subjected to four years of unjust imprisonment, from 2002 to 2006. After he was released, he worked for ZTE Corporation Chongqing Branch and was very popular among the management. The Chongqing branch was given only one seat for transferring to the headquarters. He was considered as the most qualified for the position. His boss gave him two raises in three years to show the company's appreciation for his good job performance.

Since we married, he has cared for me, protected me, and taken good care of me. I think that my husband is God's gift to me. I am the most happy wife in the world. I have a small business. My husband thought that the business was pretty demanding, and he didn't want me to be tired, so he told me to stay home and rest instead of working so hard. After I insisting on keeping the business, he got up after 5:00 a.m. and bought stock replenishments before he went to his office at 9:00 a.m. He then delivered the replenishments to me during his lunch break. He was willing to sacrifice himself to make me comfortable.

My mother was frequently admitted to the hospital. My husband always called her in the hospital and comforted her. He also went to the hospital right after work and took care of her. Some patients thought that he was her son and I was the daughter-in-law. Every time my mother was admitted to the hospital, he reminded me to bring more money, saying that my mother's pension was not much and we should pay the medical expenses. He is very thrifty himself. When I bought him clothes, he always declined. He said that he stayed inside his office and the dress code wasn't that strict.

Our Family is Being Persecuted by the CCP Because of Our Belief in Zhen-Shan-Ren

On July 20th, 1999, Jiang Zemin, the former CCP dictator, launched the persecution of Falun Gong. My husband, Mr. Tang Jian, appealed in Beijing for the right to practise Falun Gong. He was detained, and the Southwest Petroleum University fired him.

In 2002, he was unjustly sentenced to a four-year prison term for his beliefs and was forced to work as a slave labourer in the prison. Guards tortured him because he refused to “transform” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong]. I still feel the pain when I think of the tortures that he had suffered.

His mother was sentenced to seven years for practising Falun Gong. She was tortured in the Chengdu Prison. As a result, she got high blood pressure, brain stem atrophy, and other diseases, and lost her ability to take care of herself. The prison took no responsibility and put her on medical parole. The 610 Office forced her employer to withhold her pension. So she lost her income which she lived on while accumulating more medical bills. After a while, her husband despised her because she could not take care of herself and had no pension. He began to curse her, then beat her. At last, he threw her out of the house.

I was imprisoned for my beliefs while in the Chongqing Women's Forced Labour Camp when I was nineteen. Harassment never stopped, even after I survived various tortures and was released. While I was walking on the street in 2005, officer Zhang Shujun from the Dafoduan Police Station, along with agents from the Dafoduan Community Comprehensive Management Office, arrested me and held me in the brainwashing centre on Nan Mountain. My mother was with me when I was arrested. Although she was weak, she tightly hugged me and tried to protect me. They dragged her with me to the brainwashing centre. She was all bruised up. They even threatened my mother. I was healthy before I was arrested. Because of the abuse, I was taken to the emergency room three days after I arrived at the brainwashing centre.

I burst into tears when I recalled the scenes of persecution, and the scars on my husband's wrists. The scars were from the abuse that he suffered in Chengdu. We only want to follow Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and be good people. Falun Gong is practised by people from over 110 countries and regions around the world. Zhuan Falun, the Falun Gong book, has been translated into more than 30 languages. Why can people practice it in other countries, including Hong Kong and Macau, but not China? Why do we suffer brutal persecution for our beliefs? I did not experience the Cultural Revolution, but people who experienced it said, the way we practitioners have been treated is much like during the culture revolution, but even more brutal.

Falun Gong Cultivation Is Legal and Should Be Promoted

Cultivating Falun Gong and consciously following Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to be good people is not only legal but should be promoted. Our constitution states that citizens have freedom of belief, freedom of speech, and freedom of news. Many righteous lawyers have stood up for practitioners and made not-guilty pleas for their practitioner clients.

Mr. Tang Jian does not violate any laws. It is totally wrong to detain him and sentence him. I went to the Chongqing Politics and Law Committee to appeal for him, but was blocked by security officers. They did not allow us to enter, did not allow me to submit the appeal, and hastily urged me to leave.

After Wang Lijun, the ex-deputy mayor and police department director, stayed at a US consulate, Bo Xilai and Wang were dismissed from their positions and are currently under investigation, as are other core members of Jiang Zemin group. Wang Lijun directly commanded the organ harvesting from practitioners. The organs were sold and transplanted at enormous profit. Mr. Tang Jian is 37 and in good health. After learning that organ harvesting was taking place, I could not sleep. I haven't seen him for more than five months. The detention centre never allows us to visit. My family is worried about his life.

The persecution has lasted for more than 13 years. People have seen the evil of the persecution from the Tiananmen Square self-immolation hoax and the organ harvesting crimes. Please stand up for justice and kindness, and judge the persecution with justice, morality, and law.
