Ms. Jin Changlan, 68, was from Weifang City. She learned the practice of Falun Gong in 1996 and benefited both mentally and physically. After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, she held firm and believed in Falun Gong. Because she continued to clarify the facts about Falun Gong, the Weifang Police frequently persecuted her.
On the morning of February 28th, 2012, the Kuiwen District Police Department took officers from the Dayu Police Station and arrested Ms. Jin at the gate of her dorm. They took her to the Dayu Police Station and then returned to ransack her home.
They seized her Falun Gong books and informational flyers and booklets. In the afternoon, her family went to the police station and brought her home. A few hours later, the Kuiwen District Police Department took four officers from the Dayu Police Station and broke into Ms. Jin's home again without a warrant and used brute force to arrest her. They took her to the Weifang Brainwashing Centre.
Gao Xinchang, the head of the brainwashing centre, threatened Ms. Jin and slandered Falun Gong. Ms. Jin was very saddened by this and her blood pressure rose. She then began to convulse and have a heart attack. When the ambulance arrived, the ambulance technicians asked the police why they waited so long to call for help. Gao Xinchang did not dare answer.
After the hospital staff stabilized Ms. Jin, she returned home. From that time on she felt sick. She passed away on May 31st, 2012
The miracle of learning to read Zhuan Falun
Ms. Jin Changlan was warm and helpful. She never had the opportunity to go to school, so she remained illiterate. She could not even recognize phone numbers. In 1996 when she started to practise Falun Gong, she went to the home of a fellow practitioner to watch Falun Gong lectures in Jinan City.
When Jin Changlan studied the Falun Gong teachings, she asked how to pronounce each Chinese character. Oftentimes she asked whoever was passing by in hallways or on the street. One night she had a dream. When she was studying the Falun Gong teachings, an elderly man with tied up grey hair appeared in front of her. He waved a duster in his hand and smiled towards her. He demonstrated hand signs to her and taught her how to read. After she woke up, she could read the Falun Gong book Zhuan Falun. Wow! The Chinese characters stepped out of the book line by line. Under the characters was a golden bar that guided her. Gradually she was able to recognize each Chinese character! From that dream on, she was able to read Zhuan Falun by herself. Later, she was able to read Falun Gong lectures from other countries. However, when the same Chinese characters appeared elsewhere, in everyday society she could not recognize them.
Persecuted multiple times for exposing the persecution
In the spring of 2002, she carried a big bag of Falun Gong materials to her hometown in a rural area to clarify the facts of the persecution. She was reported and taken to the local police department. They cuffed her to a chair. The handcuffs were so tight that they pinched her flesh. She asked the police to loosen them. The police made fun of her and said, “Let your Teacher open them for you!” Then she thought, “Teacher, help me!” With this thought, immediately the handcuffs opened by themselves. The officers who ridiculed her were very surprised. She was eventually released to her family.
After the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Gong, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, to clarify the truth locally, to distribute informational materials, and to help people quit the CCP. Everyday, rain or shine, she would do this. Over the course of a decade, she was arrested many times. Once the police hit her and knocked one of her teeth out, causing her mouth to bleed. No matter what the circumstances, she never stopped clarifying the facts about Falun Gong.
Ms. Jin's sudden death was the result of long term, relentless persecution. She was arrested multiple times and had lived in fear in an unstable environment for a long time. The arrest and ransacking of her home on February 28th, and being forced to attend brainwashing sessions, finally led to her death. The Kuiwen District Police Department, the Domestic Security Bureau, the Weifang City Brainwashing Centre, and Gao Xinchang, all participants persecuting her, are directly responsible for her death and should be investigated and tried.
