On April 23rd, 2012, about 11:00 a.m., Ms. Kang Shufeng from Dezhou, Shandong Province was handing out informational materials about Falun Gong when she was followed and taken to a police station located at Hubin North Road in Decheng District. At around 2:00 p.m., Ms. Kang was interrogated by police officer Zhang Hongqi in the Decheng Police Station. During the interrogation, another policeman Wang Wenjun threatened that if she did not give them the information they wanted, the police would arrest her son.
Then Ms. Kang was taken to detention by Liu Dawei. Wang Wenjun and the other policeman got a locksmith to break into her home and checked everything in her house. Her MP3 player and Falun Gong calendar were taken away.
In the afternoon of April 28th, the police station ordered Ms. Kang's family to pay them 500 yuan1 as a fine and 800 yuan as guarantee money, before she was released.
After Ms. Kang's son took his mother home, he was stopped on the way to work by officers from the Jianzigu Police Station of Decheng District. They found Falun Gong materials in his car, and he was taken to the police station. Ms. Kang's son was handcuffed to a metal bed for almost an entire night, and was interrogated for the source of the Falun Gongmaterials. After Ms. Kang's son told them, the police released him. However, possessions from the car, including personal cash of around 3000 yuan, a bank deposit book, a laptop, two DVD's, a MP3 player, a camera, Falun Gong materials and other personal ID and licenses, were not returned to him. When Ms. Kang's son went back to the police station to get his possessions, the policemen argued that they did not have some of them.
They also went to the bank to check Ms. Kang's deposit account without informing her. Her bank balance was deducted for an “activity fee” related to her Falun Gong activities. The bank accounts of each of Ms. Kang's close relatives were checked and they were investigated as well.
