On the afternoon of July 10th, 2012, Mr. Wang Yaowen, a Falun Gong practitioner from Wangjin Village, Dingxiang County, Xinzhou, went to distribute Falun Gong informational brochures in Jiang Village. He was reported to the village police department by someone who did not know the facts about Falun Gong. Police from the domestic security team arrested him.

On the morning of July 11th, Mr. Wang's home was ransacked, and two laptops, a printer, a DVD-burner system, a mobile phone, and a satellite antenna were confiscated. In the late evening, he was taken to Xinzhou Detention Centre.

Mr. Wang Yaowen, 52 years old, used to be a local middle school teacher. He lost his job after the persecution of Falun Gong began. He has been tortured and relentlessly harassed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

From March 2000 to May 2007, Mr. Wang was detained four times. In March 2000, he went to appeal for justice in Beijing, which is a fundamental right of all Chinese citizens. He was arrested there and sent back to a local police station, where he was beaten, verbally abused, and handcuffed to the wall with only his toes touching the ground for many hours. Later on he was held in a local detention centre. Guards there designated prisoners to torture Mr. Wang and other Falun Gong practitioners. In cold weather, their clothes were taken off, and the guards poured water on them from head to toe. After dozens of basins of cold water were poured on them, the guards beat them with steel pipes and wooden sticks. Wang Yaowen was black and purple all over.

In August 2001, Mr. Wang was put in a detention centre because he distributed leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong and posted Falun Gong banners. Later on, he was sentenced to a forced labour camp and went on hunger strikes many times to protest the imprisonment. The superintendent, Hu Maosheng, designated prisoners and doctors to force-feed the practitioners, inserting tubes into their stomachs and cuffing their hands behind their backs. After two weeks, Mr. Wang became as thin as a stick. He was sent to the forced labour camp several times but nobody dared to accept him.

In June 2002, Mr. Wang was sentenced to forced labour again and detained in the Third Team of Xindian Forced Labour Camp. The team leader, Fan Lizhan, forced steadfast practitioners to do slave labour and deprived them of sleep. Fan utilised collaborators¹ to force practitioners to renounce their belief. If they refused to give up their belief, they were beaten.

In May 2004, Wang Yaowen initiated a “Public Letter to the People of Dingxiang,” revealing how local police and the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) persecuted Falun Gong. The 610 Officer in Xinzhou and Dingxiang, along with the police, again arrested Mr. Wang and detained him in a detention centre for over a year. Under orders from Hu Maosheng, inmates tortured Mr. Wang severely by beating him, hanging him up by handcuffs, and force-feeding him. At noon on summer days, they covered him with several blankets, and then put him out in the sun for over three hours. His clothes dripped with sweat.

In May 2005, Mr. Wang was incarcerated in the Qi County Prison, also known as Jinzhong Prison, for over four years. For the first year and three months, he was in the “Intense Control Room” and was watched over 24 hours a day. He was beaten many times for doing the Falun Gong exercises and made to stand for over ten hours. One night an inmate noticed him doing the exercises. He beat Wang and burned his hands with a cigarette lighter. The bottoms part of Mr. Wang's right forefinger was burned and suppurated for six months. He was frequently detained in a small room for doing exercises. When he was discovered doing the exercises, inmates beat him and then handcuffed him to the outside gate, not allowing him to sleep all night.

In May 2007, in order to pressure Mr. Wang to give up Falun Gong, Xue did not allow him to sleep for a month. In one week, Mr. Wang was forced to stand 24 hours a day, except for time off to eat and go to the restroom once or twice. His feet and legs became severely swollen.

Wang Yaowen is now being held in Xinzhou Detention Centre.
