An alleged hacker accused of [cutting into] state television channels to broadcast Falun Gong [information] has been arrested in Shandong, official media reported yesterday.
Public Security officials in Yantai city arrested Song Tao, of Jiamusi, Heilongjiang, on 19 July, according to the Jinan-based Qilu Evening News. Song was accused of [tapping into] a cable television channel in Jiamusi and beaming footage of the banned group on 20 April.
After questioning Song, a clerk at a Jiamusi bank, police raided an underground broadcasting centre at the city of Weihai, Shandong, seizing 28 pieces of equipment.
Song, a Falun Gong practitioner who had previously been arrested twice, was also accused of planning to [transmit] television signals in several Shandong cities on 22 July.
Song had worked with Falun Gong practitioners in the cities of Weihai, Yantai, Qingdao and Jinan, training them in [intercepting] techniques, the report said.
The report did not mention if those allegedly trained by Song had been arrested.
It quoted Cai Xian, chief engineer of the television broadcast administration in Yantai, as saying the equipment seized in Weihai was small enough to be hidden in homes.
