Associate Professor Zhu Hang Suffers Mental Collapse from Being Tortured at the Yaojia Detention Centre in Dalian City

Zhu Hang, female, around 40 years old, is an associate professor in Dalian Polytechnic University.

When the persecution started on July 20, 1999, she was among the first group to step forward to appeal for Falun Gong. In October 1999 she was thrown into the Yaojia Detention Centre in Dalian City, Liaoning Province. In the detention centre, she and other practitioners persevered in reciting the Falun Gong teachings and practising the Falun Gong exercises, spreading the teachings to inmates, and turning down all unreasonable demands. As a result, she was severely beaten, handcuffed, shackled, and deprived of sleep for extended periods of time. The detention centre guards took turns torturing her. They pricked her face, forehead and eyebrows with toothpicks and needles as soon as she closed her eyes. Sometimes they took turns slapping her face. Dark purple-colored bruises appeared all over her face. As she was wearing shackles all the time, her ankles were swollen and festered with open sores. When the detention centre contacted her husband to come and take her home, she had injuries all over her body and had suffered from a mental collapse.

She was first sent to the Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Institute of Medical Science for treatment of her physical injures. After she had recovered, she was then taken to the Dalian Psychiatric Hospital, where she was forced to take narcotics that numb the nervous system. If she refused, the so-called doctors would tie up her arms and legs and force her to submit to injections. Special personnel were assigned to prevent her from studying the teachings or doing the Falun Gong exercises. A copy of Zhuan Falun (the main text of Falun Dafa) she received from a fellow practitioner was confiscated.

Currently, Zhu Hang is still being held in the psychiatric hospital undergoing the narcotic treatment forced upon her. She looks like an entirely different person from what she was three years ago. She can no longer take care of herself, let alone return to the university to teach classes.
