To whom it may concern,
I wish to raise concern for my friend Liu Feng whose whereabouts is unknown.
The first time I met Liu Feng was in 1999, at a Falun Dafa experience sharing conference in Hong Kong. We had a short conversation and he told me his hometown was Dalian. He also told me that he was studying Business Administration in Dun Laghaire College, Dublin in Ireland. At that time I myself was also a student in China, in his hometown of Dalian.
In March 2000, Liu came to look for me at my class in Dalian. He told me in detail what had happened to him since we last met in Hong Kong. He had travelled to Beijing, to hand in a letter of appeal to the Chinese Premier concerning the persecution of Falun Gong. He was arrested and after a couple of weeks detention, he was placed under house arrest. Once he saw a short TV program about two foreigners in Dalian and one of them was me. That was how he managed to find me again.
We became very good friends and we met as often as we could. We used to share our experiences about practising Falun Gong. Feng told me that he would like to return to Ireland and continue his studies, but he was not able to because his passport had been confiscated. The police told him that they would not return it to him unless he wrote a repentance letter and denounced Falun Gong. Otherwise, the police could arrest and detain him at anytime they pleased. The situation was horrifying and every time we departed I was never sure whether I would see him again.
When the day I had to leave Dalian and return home to Sweden came, Feng and two other practitioners escorted me to the Railway station. We said farewell to each other. It was a sad departure but I knew that both of us were aware that as long as we follow the principles of Truthfulness-CompassionTolerance, try to be better and better persons, and always think of others first, we would be on the right path.
Back home I hoped that he would soon be in Ireland again to continue his studies. In June 2002, he managed to obtain new passports and was granted an Irish visa. When he went home to see his parents before collecting his visa, he was arrested.
Recent news indicates that he has been jailed; no concrete details are available.
I hope that Liu Feng and other practitioners in China can be freed from this dreadful persecution that has inflicted unimaginable sufferings on them.
