1. No Way to Appeal
In October 1999, I went to Beijing alone. I had never travelled to faraway places before and did not know where the Central Appeals Office was. I asked a policemen and he took me to the Jilin Province Liaison Office in Beijing.
In the Liaison Office, they forcibly searched my body twice, and took all of my money and valuable personal items. They said my belongings would be returned to me after I went home, but nothing was ever returned even though they were taken over two years ago. Actually the items were taken by police and kept for themselves. I was escorted back home on the train and was kept handcuffed all the way. Tian Ge, the head of the Changchun street police station, and police officers Sui Wei, Zhang Yonghai, and Wang Caiyun (local street officer) were waiting for me at the railway station. They punched, kicked, and cursed me in front of the public, and then took me to the first detention centre in Changchun.
2. Witnessing the Darkness of the Labour Camp
In December 1999, I was detained in the Jilin Province women's labour camp (also called Heizuizi Labour Camp of Changchun City). For the over one year that I was in this horrific place, the daily work hours were from 4:00 am to 11:00 pm or later. Sometimes I wasn't allowed to sleep for over 30 hours, and meal breaks were very short. I was so hungry that I almost fainted every day before the lunch was served, and my health became worse and worse. A fellow practitioner once tried to eat some biscuits when she was hungry, but heartless guard Li Man flushed the biscuits down the toilet. After being shocked by electric batons, I became incontinent, could not hold my bowels and frequently fainted.
In 2001, after repeated electrical shocks I suffered heart attacks, which made it hard to breath or move my hands and feet. The Chuanying Public Security Bureau Branch Section Chief, Sun Yanhong (phonetic spelling), shouted at me, "You are pretending to be sick, you'll be the first one sent to the labour camp." Fang Siyi, who suffered from congenital heart disease and was detained in my dormitory, was tortured until she fainted. The doctor that treated her said, "You should thank me. If had arrived even a few minutes later, you would have died." The third detention centre of Jilin City refused to take her [because of her fragile health], so merciless Sun Yanhong sent her anyway by cashing in on a favour. In the third detention centre, after Fang was shocked with stun batons a few times she was sent to the 222 Military Hospital. The head of the third detention centre called the Chuanyin police branch to take Fang back for fear she would die in the camp, but the Chuanyin branch didn't take her. Consequently, Fang was left at the hospital.
I was sent back to Changchun where all 8 guards cursed me, and the evil policemen Ye said, "We were expecting you back every day. I regret that I didn't hit you with an electric baton last time."
At around the end of May or the beginning of June, the police told us that according to orders from the central authority, all Dafa practitioners should be reformed or detained indefinitely. Thus, the persecution of Dafa practitioners was intensified and our lives were made a living hell.
Wang Dongmei, female, 31, was a worker in the 5704 Factory. In 2000, she was electrically shocked by several guards with their electric batons while in the jail. She continually crying due to shock. Female practitioners Li Rong and Wang Mingjuan were also beaten up since they wouldn't give up practising Falun Gong. I saw that they were only allowed to sleep three out of 24 hours. After Wang Dongmei was released, she was sent to the detention centre in November 2000. Guard Li Man beat poor Wang up until she couldn't stand up and became very pale. Then amoral Li Man and another criminal tortured Wang Dongmei by paraded her through all the rooms and let the criminals punch Wang in front of everyone that was there.
At that time, because of being tortured so much, my heart palpitations accelerated to a fearful extent and my hands shook. Section chief Yao and others took a look at me and said nothing, totally devoid of any pity. After this check, they refused to admit me for medical treatment.
Back at the Chuanyin Public Security Bureau, the devious police extorted 3,150 Yuan [Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban worker is about 500 Yuan] from my family under the pretext of charging "transportation fees," but they didn't issue any receipt. On the morning of July 25, 2001, policeman Zhang from the Chuanyin Public Security Bureau called to my home to say that they intended to check my physical health. In the afternoon, Tian Ge from the Changchun street police station and local police officer Zhang Yonghai came to my home and said to my father, "She will be taken to a hospital for a physical check-up and will be brought back home - guaranteed." Disagreeing with them, my father said, "She has been home for less than one week, what's the point of doing a check-up." Tian Ge said, "If she doesn't go, someone will come and arrest her." So the two fierce policemen forced me to go with them even though they didn't show any legal documents.
I arrived at the Changchun Detention Centre with Zhang Yonghai et al., at around 3 pm. For some reason a check-up was not done. On the way home, I repeatedly asked them to let me make a phone call but my request was denied. In the evening, they said I had been sent to Changchun to be detained with other practitioners. At around 10 pm, we were illegally detained at a hotel in Shahezi, Jilin city. Police took turns monitoring us. The Police from the Nanjin street police station were very rude to me.
In the forced labour camp, police try to coerce every Dafa practitioner to write a "severance guarantee" [to give up the practise of Falun Gong]. In the first three days, they sometimes used groups of people to try to brainwash Dafa practitioners. Dafa practitioners were not allowed to sleep for three nights in order to mentally disorient them. Dafa practitioners who didn't renounce their belief were tortured to the limits of their endurance, shocked with electric batons, bound to a "dead man's bed," or locked in a closed cell until they were on the verge of dying. After a period of time and as the Dafa practitioners began to recover, police would repeat the torture process. In the first brigade where I stayed, Piao Lianying was twice bound to a sheet metal bed, without quilts or pillows, during which all eating or excretion occurred while she was bound. The second time, Piao was bound for over a month, after she was released from the binding one of her arms could not move and she was severely injured. There was a Dafa practitioner from Huaxun that firmly refused to write a "severance guarantee." Her family was not allowed to see her or send her clothes. Anyone giving her clothes or other items was cursed or punished. Her parents, not knowing if she was still alive, became very worried.
One Dafa practitioner was shut inside a closed cell for over one month. The experience left her mentally disoriented and unable to recognise people; yet the vile police still didn't let her go.
When I went to the clinic to see a doctor, I saw a female Dafa practitioner bound on the "dead man's bed." One police officer gave her an injection and then started to cruelly force-feed her while a group of police officers shocked her with electric batons. The lady was almost tortured to death and yet wasn't even crying, due to her strength endowed from the practise of Falun Dafa. Policewoman Li Man asked us to look the other way to avoid seeing the torture. Wang Xiufen from the 4th brigade was a college teacher at the Jilin special agricultural school. After being locked in the closed cell, she also became mentally disoriented. Some practitioners were even tortured to death in the camp.
One day, four police guards were playing cards and at midnight two went to asleep, while the other two kept watching me. I took my chance and I tried to escape. However, I broke my legs. One officer, in his thirties, ran at me, cursed me for about 4 minutes, and then dragged me away without mercy. The owner of the hotel and the guests all saw what happened. The officer stuffed my mouth to prevent me from crying out.
In the 222 Military Hospital, I asked the doctor to let my family know where I was. Police from the Nanjing street quickly said, "No, don't inform her family." The doctors looked at me without any concern and no feeling of compassion in their hearts. Instead of trying to save me, the police were thinking about how to shirk responsibility for my condition. I was transferred to the city hospital, hoping that the pain would end; but actually it was just a prelude to something even worse. When my wounds were dressed I cried because of the agonising pain; so my mouth was stuffed to muffle my cries. The Doctor said my heart rate was 120 beats per minute and an emergency injection was needed. But I didn't get any medical help for over two hours.
My head was not very clear during that situation. At around 9:00 am, a policeman from Nanjing Street started to record my situation. He kept shouting at me, which made my heart palpations increase and caused chest pains. Later he wrote something that was not factual and asked me to sign it. Only after I signed did someone inform my family of my whereabouts. Later I realised that the police were trying to shirk their responsibility. For a whole day, I was not given any food or allowed to talk with other patients.
3. My Father Was Beaten
My parents are in their fifties and are in a weakened physical condition. My mum suffered from serious heart disease. Because of me, they went to the local police station to talk to Zhang Yonghai. Zhang raged and shouted, "Yes I cheated you, so what!" Then seven policemen started beating my dad, while others stood waiting for the next round of beatings. My father was left with many bruises on his body. One policeman shouted, "Have him detained!" Another policemen wanted to drag my mother out, but my mother wouldn't leave, otherwise, there would not be any witnesses to how badly they had tortured my dad.
On February 6, 2002, my mum and I went to the Chuanyin Public Security Bureau to talk to the deputy head about the beating my dad had suffered, but no one would listen to us. Then we went to the Changchun street police station, where policeman Xie Yafeng said, "That's an upper level issue. Whatever they ask us to say, we just say it." He also said shamelessly, "If you want to sue us, just go ahead." On the morning of February 9, when two local street officers visited my home, I described what had happened. Later Zhang Yonghai said to me, "There is an internal document in the Public Security Bureau that says the police can kill or beat up Falun Gong practitioners and they will not be held responsible."
The police should protect kindhearted citizens and arrest the lawbreakers and murderers. But now they are doing the opposite: they tortured an innocent elderly man. They forced me to sign a written record, and threw me into a hospital to suffer pain for days and nights without any medical treatment.
Police never cared about our suffering or accepted any responsibility for it. I had to pay all of my own medical expenses, and also the expenses to treat my father's injuries from the police beating. When he ran out of money, my father borrowed money from his work unit, now he has received advances on his salary up to the Chinese New Year.
The Public Security Bureau has confiscated several thousand Yuan of my money and personal items without returning them or even issuing me a receipt. When will justice prevail? I hope all the officers in the Public Security Bureau will visit my family to investigate the facts I have presented. I hope the government will return justice to me.
Kindhearted people, please think about it! Jiang's regime has cruelly persecuted Dafa practitioners who practise the principles of Truth-Compassion-Tolerance. What huge calamities that will that bring to our nation and people!
