Let Us Do Well in Playing the Main Roles

I would like to share with everyone what I've come to understand recently through doing Fa-rectification work. [Fa-rectification work can be understood as doing practical things to help expose the evil persecution in China and to restore the good name of Falun Dafa]Please kindly point out anything incorrect.

Suing Li Lanqing

We invited several famous human rights lawyers for the Li Lanqing case. After we told them about Falun Gong, one of them became very proactive. He was well known to the Brussels media, and he was good at doing public relations and media work. He called the newspapers one by one personally. Additionally he emphasized that his clients were NOT "sect" members and required that the media use the proper wording in their reports.

We were very delighted by this development, since the Jiang regime used illegal means to defame us in France. Since the beginning of the persecution, the reports in the French language media have been negative. We hoped that this situation could be rectified with the influence of this lawyer. However, very soon, we were proven to be wrong. This is because we forgot that as Dafa practitioners we should play the main role of doing things to assist rectify the Fa. We did not see the issue from the standpoint of Fa-rectification.

The next day, several newspapers in Brussels reported our case. Some were very good, but the French language ones were still using the bad name, and even quoted the Jiang's regime's wording from 1999. After seeing this, we took a step back and calmed down, and I saw my attachment clearly.

I had been relying on an everyday person to rectify the Fa for us! Could it be possible that if we Dafa disciples could not rectify the situation with the French media, a non-practitioner could do it?

I remembered reading about Master Li's warning against relying too much on people in society to do our work as Dafa practitioners, but I did not look inside to see my problems in this when I read this part of the teaching, instead I thought it was pointing at other practitioners. However, this time I saw my problem clearly.

I found that when doing local truth clarification work with the media and government officials, I was often passively holding out hope that everyday people would help us. I had not regarded this as a problem of my Xinxing (heart nature) and had not given myself strict requirements. But isn't this vain hope the same as reliance? It is already an attachment, it will be taken advantage of by the evil, and it is part of the reason why our Fa rectification work is hindered from time to time.

This is a serious issue. We want to save people, but our attachment and impurity of thought are preventing them from being saved! Additionally, I was astonished when I saw how widely this problem existed in our Fa rectification work. Our project team is a big one. [Please note: Falun Gong itself has no organisational structure. Practitioners sometimes work together on particular practical things for exposing the evil persecution, and call themselves a “team”, but this is just for this specific practical purpose during this vicious persecution, and is nothing to do with the principles of Falun Gong. “Teams” and organisation have nothing to do with the practice of Falun Gong itself.] If just a few of us have the impure thoughts, it is not a big problem, but if many of us have it, it will become a big problem.

This train of thought led me to a few other issues. Why didn't the UN pass a resolution condemning the persecution of Falun Gong in previous Human Rights Conventions? Did we have the thought of relying on them to rectify the situation for us? Now another UN Human Rights Convention is approaching, do we still have such thoughts? In addition, have we realised that we must abandon these thoughts and shoulder the responsibility of playing the main role in Fa-rectification?

Why was the United States kicked out of the UN Human Rights Committee? Did we put too much hope in the role that the United States could play?

Why haven't we clarified the truth to more people in China? Is this because some of us have the hope that society would rise up and rectify the whole situation?

Now in Hong Kong, many non-practitioners have stepped forward and done a lot against the proposed anti-subversion law. Do we harbour the hope that other people's efforts would prevent the law from being passed?

Master said in "Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Philadelphia, U.S.A.":

"Absolutely don't think about any favours the old forces might do for us, or about how the ordinary society might help us. You are the ones saving the ordinary people's society, and you are the ones saving sentient beings!"[...]

"Since you're Dafa disciples, you shouldn't put your hopes in so-called "natural" changes, external changes, changes in the ordinary society, or in some favours that someone might do for us.”

So I believe that we must be always clear in our minds that every person, whoever he or she is, high ranking Chinese officials of the 16th Party Congress, the UN Human Rights Convention delegates, the people of Hong Kong, the people in mainland China, our local MPs, members of the media, etc. -- we should play the main roles in assisting in rectifying the Fa and clarify the truth to all of them, so that they may position themselves correctly.

I feel that when we regard the result of a specific case, for example the UN Human Rights Convention, as being overly important, many impure thoughts would be mixed in it. Then our impure thoughts would be used to interfere with us and at the same time, create obstacles for what we are doing. In order to completely deny the old forces' arrangement, we must guard every thought of ours based on Fa-rectification. At the same time, we should turn around all of the old forces' arrangements and use them as opportunities to clarify the truth, offer salvation to sentient beings, and improve our cultivation. At the same time, we must emphasize calmly studying the Fa and persistently send forth righteous thoughts [using upright thoughts to purify oneself and the surroundings] everyday.

After recognizing the solemn nature of our every thought's purity in doing Fa-rectification work, I think that our project team needs to first determine how we can, as a whole, look at things based on Fa-rectification, instead of hurriedly dividing up the work and coordinating specific activities. There is a fundamental difference between Dafa practitioners doing Dafa work and everyday people's doing Dafa work. In doing the Dafa work, it will be clear whether we have enough righteous belief and righteous thoughts toward Dafa. It becomes an even more pressing requirement for us to continuously strengthen and purify our righteous belief and righteous thoughts toward Dafa, and an even more pressing requirement for our determined righteous thoughts and righteous actions.
