Falun Gong Practitioners Persecuted in Shanxi Women's Prison in Lead-up to the 18th National People's Congress

Beginning in July 2012, Shanxi Women's Prison intensified the persecution of detained Falun Gong practitioners in preparation for the 18th National People's Congress. With special brainwashing centres and all manner of torture, they are trying to force Falun Gong practitioners to give up their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Many practitioners, including Ms. Li Hong, are being relentlessly tortured.

Deputy directors of the prison Xue Yuexian and Wang Yuhong have directed instructors in the 11 prison wards to enlist criminals to brainwash steadfast Falun Gong practitioners and monitor their behaviour 24 hours a day. Practitioners are threatened, beaten, insulted, forced to stand, forced to sit, shocked with electric batons, confined in a small solitary cell, and subjected to other brutal torture.

Guard Wang Fuying in the 2nd ward tortured practitioner Ms. Li Hong from Taiyuan with the tactics mentioned above as well as depriving her of sleep and limiting her use of the toilet. Ms. Li Hong is now mentally disordered.

The instructor in the 4th team had criminals watch over practitioner Ms. Hao Runlian from Taiyuan, who was sentenced to four years. Ms. Hao was monitored all day long, even when meeting with her family. Ms. Hao's daughter was also sentenced to four years and detained in the 2nd team.

Ms. Kang Shuqin, 65, from Taiyuan, was a teacher in the No.45 High School. She has been tortured for ten years in the prison; the fingerprints on her face from being slapped are still very obvious.

Deputy director of the prison Xue Yuexian is very sinister and ruthless and has been persecuting Falun Gong practitioners for over ten years. Xue induced guards to persecute practitioners using financial incentives: no matter what forms of torture they used, they guards would get a bonus if they “transformed” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] a practitioner.

Wang Yuhong is the former instructor of the 5th ward. Wang persecuted Falun Gong practitioners using unsavory tactics and flattery. Due to her success rate in “transforming” practitioners, she has now been promoted to deputy director of the prison and works with Xue to enforce the persecution. Wang advocates even more intense tactics, saying the bonus given to the guards will be directly linked to practitioners' “transformation” rate and is urging instructors in all wards to persecute practitioners using any methods they choose.

Newly promoted political section director Gao Qipan oversees and permits what is taking place in all the wards and does not do anything to stop the torture.

During practitioners' monthly meeting with their families, guards in all the wards put on earphones to listen in. If a practitioner reveals any acts of torture, the instructors, team leaders, guards, and criminal inmates torture the practitioner even more brutally.
